Gut instinct it will have to be sent back to Apple, who if under guarantee which im sure it is by the fact that its "new (ish) " will probable replace it

apple won't cover that kind of damage i'm afraid
http://www.ukipodrepairs.co.uk/ were recommended to me by mactivate, it might be worth giving them a shot.

i couldn't be arsed paying £50 + p&p to get my water damaged screen fixed though, so can't vouch for them.

    I had a feeling they wouldn't!

But can it be fixed anywhere though do ya know?

Just lookin' on ebay and replacement screens are about $100, so by the time you fit it etc, that £115 seems like a reasonable price.

[edit] Beaten to it by cynos

    $100 = €85 approx.

    £115 = $165 approx.

You could always say that, when you bought it you noticed a tiny crack on the side of the screen. As it was so small you decided to ignore it. But as time went on the crack just got bigger and bigger until finally you decided that's enough! I have to complain and get a replacement for free. Damn those clumsy producers you should even ask for an apology at this stage. ;)

say it arrived like that, i wouldn't go into too much detail like aporia, bring it to a shop say it was a gift and it was broke from the box see what they say

    Thanks for clearing that up...

My point is for the non-technically capable, 115 stg isn't too bad a price...you're paying a 65% premium to pay someone to fit it and assure you it's working.
Add to that that none of those eBay sellers even post outside the US

Personally I'd just buy a new one for £190 and use the old one as a portable HDD.

OP: if you bought this on a credit card you might be covered under some form of purchase insurance depending on when it was bought and what your card T&Cs are...
