Hey all, need some pointers -

I am looking at getting in shape, toning up and managing stress (lots of that at the moment), this would be a big factor as I work to much and need to get involved in someting in the evening for an hour or two 2/3 times a week.

I'm 6-4 or so and dropped about a stone already to about 17.5, don't look that weight, but want to get down to about 15 or so - beyond that and I'll look like a pull through for a rifle.

Any pointers for the most approriate type I should look at and also any clubs in the areas above.

    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the feeback - travelling for teh paste few days.

The Portmarnock option sounds interesting - is this the contact details????
Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club, Blackwood Lane, Carrickhill, Co. Dublin also runs judo classes and can be contacted on (01) 846 2122.

Another real stupid question - can someone clarify all the acronyms for me - I think I have some guess but they could be wrong
    MA - Martial Arts
    MMa - Mixed martial arts????
TKD - Tae Kwon Do???? Spelling????
    BJJ - ???

And any others - be a big help for stupid / newbie individuals such as myself.

Martin if your interested here's the details.

We train Monday and Thursday from 19:00 to 20:30 (7pm-8:30pm).

You might also be interested in Andy Ryans club (SBG Northside) in Donaghmede. He's training every night from 7 onwards and I can tell you on the northside you won't get better than those two clubs. Andy teaches BJJ, Judo, Vale tudo etc, its hardcore stuff and not for the faint hearted, lol.

Andy's a purple belt BJJ and ten times Irish judo champion.

I love absolute statements on this board. Coolmine Judo CLub and Lusk Judo club are also quite good and could be argued, better for someone that want's to learn technique and skill not just randori.

Oh abosulutely, their also fantastic clubs. And I absolutely wasn't trying to take anything away from another Judo club. But I got the impression Portmarnock/Donaghmede was convenient for Martin, thats all. After all the thread title is "MA in Malahide, Portmarnock, Sutton"

And for your information, I wasn't attempting to make any sort of "absolute" statement.

Now I'm sorry Mr.Internet Policeman please forgive me

Sorry tapout, i didnt mean to come across that way. Sure someone in malahide may find lusk as convient as donaghmede becuase there would be no traffic in the lusk direction. m50 buzz etc.

    My sincerest apologies.

No sweat, and no apologies needed. Its easy to get it wrong online, I'll do it myself here in time I'm sure.

I really never intended to take away from any other Judo club, I've trained in a few and have taken something new from every one of them.

Btw, its the M1 which takes ya to Lusk, lol...

Martin1016, one thing you'll find about the Judo lads is your welcome to train in any Judo club and they'll be delighted to have you for a night or for good. I'm sure you'll enjoy Judo whichever club you visit.

EmuLemu, talking about Randori in Portmarnock, lol. I remember when I started Judo first when done the rounds of clubs and being told "Jeeze a beginner shouldn't be training up there, its murder, all you'll learn is how to bless yourself". I thought that was hilarious!.

Another suggestion Martin. If your looking for a good cardio workout, excellent instruction and your interested in kickboxing you'd do well looking at Mugendo kickboxing in Channel College, or checkout Liam at www.safe.ie kickboxing is very cardio intense.
