Maybe there is such a system, but can you create a 'password protected' folder or such that I could keep my stuff in.

Depending on your OS - you may be able to restrict access. Otherwise, you need to google for some 3rd party software.

You'll need 3rd party software that'll prolly cost you a few quid. I think there's an option to do this on xp pro, but not too sure.
