    Hi,

I want to start some martial arts, Im not sure if I will have time until the summer but I need some help with what to do. I have been recomended both Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu. I want something with alot of kicks and preferabley some high flying techniques with something like flips back flips or spinning and flying kicks. I did a year of shidokan when I was younger. Im 19 and want to do it for fitness, interest and defence. Which would be better for me and can you recommend somewhere around Dublin 6 to do it.

    Cheers.

Hmmm...Maybe Capoeira might be what youre looking for.

    I just found this on a google search...lol http://www.candeiasdublin.com/
Dont know anything about them. I think theres a capoeirista on here.

Anyway have a look here and see what you think http://www.youtube.com/results?search=capoeira&search_type=search_videos&search=Search

If you are not interested in Capoeira however, I can recommend the Kung Fu club down in Newpark school near Blackrock.

Hope you find what youre looking for.

    Good Luck,

    Dave

Awww Dave, you found us :) That's just lovely... I didn't know we'd be anywhere near the googly results...

PM me if you're interested in capoeira and I'll steer you our way.

(Or another club's way if location suits better)

    This and this
    defence
    don't really go together.

But that said, if you're looking to something spectacular, go with Capoeira. It looks great and I'd say it's great fun. For self defence, go with something more practical.

I was going to outline that too Roper, but fear of a 27 page argument - I just said "meh.."

Thanks Dave and Cabelo. Capoeira does seem to be quite interesting, and the friday classes would suit me at the moment. Roper and dlofnep I understand where your coming from. I'm now undecided between Tae Kwon Do and Capoeira, is it frowned upon or anything at people doing the two? Im not to sure of the ethics behind martial arts on that side of things.

If you're to start 2 at once then capoeira probably isn't a good idea. We move a fair amount different to any other MA and while it's usually mutually beneficial to both practicing capoeira and taekwon-do usually seems detrimental.

Alright, Ill have a look at some stuff on the net and see which Id prefer, I know one of my friends was big into Tae Kwon Do so Ill talk to him about that side of things and Ill give you PM if I have any questions about Capoeira, thanks for the help.

Why don't you try a whole bunch and then make a decision? Most places are first class free anyway so ....

Yeah thats probably best, thanks for all the help guys. As soon as I can tear away from the studies long enough Ill head out to a few classes and see what suits me best.
