trouble with Sky

I just got Sky satellite on Wednesday and today I am having trouble with it. I keep getting a can't find signal or some such message. I had trouble getting it installed and it they half-assed the installation by splicing wires that we were using for chorus Broadband [just got back on PC today] so my family and I are moving back to Chorus on Tuesday. My question is if anybody here had any trouble with Sky or did I just get a bad installation?

    Moving to ICDG- Satellite.

My opinion is you got yourself a bad install.
Did you get a sky installer, or just a local installer? A proper install would include a new cable run from the dish to the receiver.
Sounds to me like the installer did'nt know what he was doing.

Thanks Sparky. The installation was scheduled by Sky. I called their number in those newspaper ads. The installers just came in a flatbed truck not in a truck that has SKY markings. I am not sure if I want to keep it now.

Well, any installer that knows their stuff would'nt go using other cables. Plus did they not test the system out for you, and show it working in full order?

    If you got it directly from Sky, It was installed by {or someone representing}
a company called Sierra, Who were discussed about lately.

It sounds like a terrible install. There should be about 70% or more on Services | Setup |Signal Test (Quality bar).

They should not have joined the cable. totally against Sky install rules.
The Chorus cable is also the wrong kind.

It sounds like a Sierra install.

Diagonal cable runs. No drip loop. And thats just what I've seen on my own street.

Misfortunately it was Sierra. :( If I had known I would of had such a problem with this I would of went with Dalton TV's [Are they any good? I would of had to pay them €89 for a re-install]

Er. we are talkiing about the Satellite Platform, not the Sky Channels. I have 2 Sky box and 3 non-Sky Satllite receivers and about 1400 FTA TV and 1200 FTA radio from satellite. Even one Sky subscription.

But I can't remember the last time I watched an actual Sky Channel. BBC, ITV yes.

hi there most of the sierra instellers are fairly good.a lot of times they have to use existing cable and all chorus cable is at the same standard as sky. if you do cancel sky then best of luck if not make sure you readings are fairly in signal test

What evidence did you use to arrive at these conclusions?

Indeed, any of the cables I see Chorus using are not "copper on copper" and definitely not designed with satellite signals in mind.

The Chorus cable in houses here is all alu/alu and most certainly unable to take satellite over any distance.
