hey quick question - is this stand from waltons generally ok for any type of electric guitar ? also is there anywhere in town with a better selection of stands ?

also on an aside, i have a fender hard case - its got a kind of "fur" on the inside that stinks. Anyone know a good way to get rid of the smell ? Fabreeze or something ?

I wouldn't use febreeze or any of that **** because you are just replacing one bad smell with another one. IMHO you should try to leave the case open for as long as possible in a well ventilated room to air it out. If the sun ever shines again try leaving it open outdoors.

EDIT That stand looks OK but I've never used one. Hercules do a tall stand for about €24 that dangles the guit from the headstock. The advantage is its almost impossible to knock teh guitar out of the stand. The disadvantage is it takes up a lot more space. I bought one recently and found Musicians Inc to be a Euro or two cheaper than the rest

Im gonna head to the "music quarter" tomorrow and check out Musicians Inc, MusicMaker and Waltons - see who has what for what price. Waltons is the only one with a half decent website, hence the link. I've actually found Musicians Inc to be slightly more expensive that Waltons or MusicMaker on a few occasions.

The Hercules stands do look a bit more sturdy - I'll check'em out - cheers :) - is this the one you got ?

As for the case smell - I've tried leaving the case open and the smell still lingers, left it open for 3/4 weeks. It really needs a clean out, id guess, no idea how to do this tough - im guessing soap and water would ruin the case ?

I have the one you linked to which is actually more for acoustic guitars. They didn't have that one in any of the music quarter shops recently. (good name!). The one I got recently looks like this one. This has a spring loaded gizmo that grabs your guitar under the headstock (works better than it sounds)

I dont know what else to do with your case. FWIW A guy I know who is a painter uses onions cut in half to absorb the smell of paint. He swears by it. You could try it in your case but no guarantees
I suppose you could use febreese but I would recommend go really easy with it.

Go to the supermarket and find the spray that neutralises bad smells. Fabreeze will just cover the smell with another smell but there is another one that should do the trick. I can see the ad on TV but I can't remember the name ;)

Is it that german one - Oaust!!! or something like that ?

@Johnny : Does that stand you have (the one that grabs the headstock) not lead to the guitar swinging about a bit - say if someone knocked into it ?

You mean that 'bubble-gummy' new case smell? I love that.

Maybe the previous owner projectile vomited into his case, ya never know...

Yeah! LOL. My Parker smells of tooti-fruiti when I take it out of the case. (I thought that was just my one though...:( )

Well, the case *will* pick up smells from the environment if you leave it open too long...... j/k

Did it ever get seriously wet inside the case (thereby mildew-ing the back of the 'rugs')?

I think the bubble-gum smell in most cases is from the glue they use to put the fabric in.

I dont know what happened to the case - got it with a second hand guitar ('89 jap strat)- trying some neutrodol stuff, will see if that works. The main problem is that if I actually leave the guitar in the case, the guitar picks up the same smell, which aint good.

Also ended up getting one of these from Musician Inc. Works great - cheers for the advice Johnny
