Dublin City Centre offers great scenes in some of its "forgotten streets', unused bussines and dark light creates an excellent atmostphere, hard to believe it's twenty-first century. I love it!

This is a good example of choosing B&W because it will enhance the photo, and not because it'll make it more 'artistic', in the non-subjective sense of the word.

I would liked to have seen what was to the left. Those windows really lead the eye in that direction, and the woman walking wants you to know what she is walking from. Where was that taken btw?

    Agree, that's why is in b&w ;)
On the left you'll find the quays, as is much brighter than what you see here, destroys completly the photo in my opinion. If you look at the top of the pic you'll see it was taken on North Lott

    Many thanks for the comments.

There's some nice streets around the Thomas St area, but it is fairly rough. I nearly got stabbed for my camera there...

Speaking of alleys around Thomas Street:

Jools ,I sense a tint in that photo of the bench.
Is the tint because film was used ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭joolsveer

I got Gunns to develop the film and print a contact strip and transfer to CD so If there is a tint I probably put it on in PS. I will check it out. I have scanned some 120 negatives on my Epson 3170 scanner and I would usually scan B&W as colour rather than greyscale.

I like it jools, it's kind of got that old original black and white look i think ,like it was created in the 20's.

Most photos I've come accross that are old have the same tint ,I can't put a name on the colour.

This shot may not be of a street object but I took the photo with a 50 year old forgotten camera - a Zeiss Ikon 6X6

It's the camera second from left here

    Kings Inn yeah?

I've seen that seat twice every day since I moved to Dublin...Still Been trying to get a decent photo! I like. Especially the top right hand corner, where the light burns out a lot of the leaves, leaving shapes...

BTW Joolsveer... Nice to see someone else using the 1000FN :) Great camera!

Sorry to stay off topic, but what lens are you using with it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭joolsveer

    The lens it came with was the 35 - 105mm and I have a 50mm 1.8 and a 80-200mm 4.5-5.6. I use these on a 350D as well.

35 - 105? With "Ultrasonic" written on it?

Absolutly lovely lens!!! My autofocus is going a bit dodge on it lately, but it was the first of its type to be brought out! Get a rubber lens hood for it if you don't have one already!

Yes that's the one. Where do you recommend for hoods?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Jessops have some good ones, but as usual, they're pricy, try the camera exchange, or Gunns. Conns, but again, pricier.

The rubber hood is a lot more flexible than having a fixed one, and since you're probably using it as a prime, it saves time if you have to pop it up!

Sorry if adding photos to your thread doesn't please you. I will have to leave it to you if I am the culprit.
