If you have a broadband connection use something like Skype or Google talk.

dunno bout the other mobile charges but with the new vodafone roaming thing if your friend is on vodafone it only cost them €0.79 to receive a call for any length. So you ring their irish mobile on your mobile if your on billpay it'll ocst you feck all and them only .79c
    dunno if that helps.....

Thanks peeps. Would that work on a mobile to mobile call? I am not familiar with using call cards, the last time I used one was when you would buy one for a public phone and you would have 10 credits or so, is it different as in that you punch in a number kinda of like topping up your phone?

its similar to the old payphone call cards.
its better if u call from and to a land line. u wont get the same rates if u call from a mobile. texts are fairly cheap though so text the person u want to call and ask them to go to a land line, then call them.
the way i used to do it was pay 50 cent on a pay phone for a local call (some cards its a free phone number, but ur better off calling the local number it gets u more minutes) then dial the card number, u get asked for ur card number, it tells u the balance on ur card, then enter the number u want to call with all the prefix's. i think from oz its 011 353. but i could be wrong, as other back packers and they can tell u.
