    what is the file system like on these?

    say i have folders containing my ripped dvds set up like this:

    scrubs -> season 1 -> episode 1.avi, episode 2.avi etc
    scrubs -> season 2 -> episode 1.avi, episode 2.avi etc
    family guy -> season 1 -> episode 1.avi, episode 2.avi etc
    family guy -> season 2 -> episode 1.avi, episode 2.avi etc

    how will these get transferred onto the vision m and how will they show up on it's interface?

    will it differentiate between the two shows and their seasons? or will i just have a list with four indistinguishable episode 1.avi etc

    Yes you can organise your videos into folders, and will be displayed as such by the UI.
