Hey, a while back I posted that my pc was turning itself off after a few seconds ( sometimes got further if i didnt try turning it on for a few hours ) anyways brought it into the pc shop and he has said that the fan on the back of the powersupply isnt working.

Now the psu came with the case ( antec 2 500w ) off komplett. Does this kind of thing happen often with psu where the fan just stops working and could this be the reason why the pc is turning off? Also what would of caused this to happen or is it just one of those stories where devices decide to just stop?

Built the pc last october all new worked sound untill now? Will it still be under warranty? Thanks in advance for help :)

Take it easy on the bumping there, give us a chance eh ;)
I have heard a few instances of the psu fan stopping, why it happens..i dont know. Things just malfunction without warning and alot of the time no one really suspects the power supply. So let me get this strange now, you built a pc and it happened again?

You pretty much answered your own questions joe123 it could have been a bad unit, a bad fan, too much heat in the room, magical PSU breaking pixes etc.

In short there is no real way to tell (without going to the trouble of testing the PSU to see whats wrong with it) and if the PC works fine with another PSU then you should check the warranty on the item (via the store you purchased from or the manufacturers website) and see if it still applies and replace it if you so desire.

see, this might be an obviouse one but....
when buying cheap components the trade off is less riliability.
if its not that cheap it could be the your home power supply is flactuating and the psu is not good enough to deal with it.
PSUs are so cheap these days that even if its not under the warrenty it wont be that painful to replace. Though, personaly, i would opt for a good PSU rather than a cheap one - you can always use it in the next PC you're building.

Lol sorry for the *bump* ( you know how it is  )

Well because this fan has stopped on the psu would that be the cause of why the pc is turning itself off? I never checked the fan to see untill this happened so as far as I know the fan could of been off for a while but its definetly not on now.

This is the first and only pc ive built and only problem ( poster before me asked if it happened before? )

Does it make any difference that the pc is situated very near a radiator? The fan should still go no matter how warm the air is ( checked it in many locations now )

Anyways my main question ( sorry for the confusion ) is because the fan doesnt work would that be the cause of the pc turning off?

EDIT: By the way ive decided im going to get another powersupply of komplett as they are not that expensive and as a poster said above it will be used either for next build or for testing in times such as these. Anyways if anyone could give any suggestions on what psu off komplett would be a good choice? I have a high end pc with a 7800gt graphics card so im looking around 450w....

Komplett said they will replace my current psu with this

but If im going for second psu I am not sure and am currently thinking about

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=306517

Any thoughts or advice would be great thanks :o
