Anybody esle have issues with the amount of time left holding when on the phone to SKY. I mean even when looking for an upgrade you seem to be passed from one operater to another and asked the same questions by each one. I was left on hold for over 20 mins when looking for a multiroom upgrade.
I was dealt with by 3 different operaters and asked the same security questions by each one. What was really annoying was I had to explain what I was looking for to each one. Am I being petty here??

Are SKY making money from the phone calls? do they make more the longer your on hold?

I dont think you are being petty, its poor customer service, I think they get a percentage of the 0818 call charge but I'm not sure thats the motivation for this.

When ringing go to the" pay them money" option, when you get to speak to someone about 20 seconds later ask about the upgrade.

Try what KdjaC says. I think that depending on what you're ringing for, your call importance varies in the queue system.

I doubt they get any profit from the calls, because them calls have to be redirected to Scotland and that's expensive.

I rang various different Sky numbers, some beginning with 0870 I think. I asked how much were the calls and the girl said "national rate". When I looked at my bill I notices these were charged at 25c per min plus VAT. I rang Eircom and the girl said that seemed to be a MOBILE number, and the rate to UK at the most should be 10-11c per min.

I rang a few times and it added nearly €20 to my bill. This is outrageous! And I tried to ring back one of the numbers to challenge them but I was left holding....and all I could think of was 25c per minute so I hung up.

The quickest way to get through to Sky is to phone the VIP number 0818719860
you will be speaking to some one straightaway if they ask how you came to be in the VIP queue just say you phoned 0818719819 and that they are the first human you have spoken to, They have to help you, Works all the time for us

0870 numbers are not calls to mobiles, despite what they look like. 0044 870 is the correct start to the numbers based in the UK, which Sky mostly use, such as 08705 160 160, used for Prem Plus, the number to be dialled from within Ireland is 0044 8705 160 160.

0818 are national rate numbers based in Ireland. I always dial 0818 719 819, but early in the morning before 9am is the best time to ring if you dont want a queue.

On eircom, 0818 rates are 6.35c for connection, and 0.13c per second (7.8c per min) after that, 0.068c (4.08c per min) in the evenings.

I've tried for the last 15 mins on the Vodafone site alone, to see what are the charges for these and 15xx numbers. They and the other mobile operators always make that data hard to find, but always try to push big price plans, and these calls are never inclusive of your chosen tarrif.

    Meteor for 0818.... 25c/min
    O2 for 0818 ... 31c/min

and I got Vodafone's rate for 0818, which is a little murkier... "Mobile to landline rate charged as per your price plan option. Peak/Off peak rates apply"
