jeez guys, this forum is dire need of a few posts..
in order to try and get a few more people listening to the goodness that is soul / r 'n' b and particularly funk.. what are the essential must have albums that we must listen to?

i don't know too much about the particular genres but i'm interested in a mixture of the three with emphasis on the funk.. bands like funkadelic, sly and the family stone and the meters all play frequently in my playlists.. but it's all getting a bit repetative at this stage and a need some new, decent music..

can ye point me in the right direction?

Galactic, cover a lot of sub genres of funk (jazz-funk, New Orleans funk, Electro funk, blues funk and rock funk) They are the shizzle imho and have a large following in the us, and are similar to the way zeppelin were in the way that they tour relentlessly.
Booker t and the mgs are sexy too.I'll post more up later but galactic ought to keep you busy for a while if you really look into em.

Cool, nice list there, a few of those I don't have.
Yes for Fela Kuti, afro-beat funk, it's seriously good.
