TCD Sub-forum

Anyone think that there will be a growing need here for a sub-forum for TCD alumni as the students who currently use this forum start to graduate?

It would seem a shame to suddenly not post here after we graduate, but obviously we'll have less to discuss that is in common with current students.

Any chance that'll happen? Is it a good idea, or should we just leave TCD well-alone when we're gone from here and start posting on more grown-up forums (e.g. the mustard forum)

To be honest I've been thinking of Submittinig A Motion to SU council For A Subforum here, seeing as we now have A New address here, and The Rising Numbers Of Our Users...

Agent smith, i'd personally like to see a clear and full distinction between boards.ie/tcd and the SU. Not that i've anything against the SU or any of the officers/hacks. It's just, SU chatter is frightfully boring unless you know the background and SU ppl are frightfully boring unless you're pissed and they're at least kinda hot.

However, about a sub-forum, sure, it would be nice. I haven't read the charter recently, but does it imply that TCD forum is for TCD students and non-tcd students or previous-tcd students would be less welcome?

To be honest I've been thinking of Submittinig A Motion to SU council For A Subforum here, seeing as we now have A New address here, and The Rising Numbers Of Our Users...

    Joe

    next council:

Council acknowledges the continuing wait for the updated tcdsu.org site to arrive

Council accepts that large numbers of SU members have stopped posting on the message board at tcdsu.org, and have moved to boards.ie

Council stresses the importance of clear, multiple lines of communication between the various elements of the SU

Council mandatesthe education officer, boards.ie, the boards.ie admin, nietzechan and all the tcd boards.ie mods to create a tcd su sub forum

    Council after next

    (education officer report)

"and, finally, further to the mandate passed into policy at the last council i contacted boards.ie about creating a sub forum and received a variety of responses, which i will share with council tonight.

boards admins bellowed down, kinda like roman or greek gods down in those films based on the classics, from their awe inspiring heights, i got scared and didn't stick around to have the rest of the conversation with them, but i don't think there's a green light there. i have posted in the system section asking for the forum.....

then i tried the tcd boards.ie forum mods. one of them wouldn't talk to me until i had produced my wand, and then another of them wandered up dressed like a porn star in these mad shades so i put my wand away quickly. the third mod looked up from his mac as i approached him, and once i mentioned the words 'students union', well, council, it wasn't pretty and it was a deffo no.

now, council, while you guys say 'jump' and we, your willing officers, say 'how high' i must stress the fact that your powers do not extend to the rest of the world, and are in fact quite limited - you cannot mandate boards.ie. really, i'm surprised the EC let this one past them, what was that? oh, right, i've just been told by the EC that they had to listen to so much high pitched whining from so many of the candidates and their teams during their election that their hearing has been affected, and they in fact did not hear this motion being debated and voted on last council at all.

and, a quick reminder about the photocopiers....."

That's a good idea. I know I don't want to stop posting here when I finish in June but I'm guessing that it'll become more and more difficult to follow what's going on when I'm no longer a student here.

quite correct non of us are mac users....though if the SU wants to buy us all 17" PB's we'll support any sub-forum they want....

I see no reason why the alumni threads can't go here. The thing thats links us is that we got to/went to trinity. I don't see how a seperate forum will make it easier to keep up the link.

As for the SU, screw them, they don't belong here (except donal).

well i dunno there is a possibility we'd have more interesting things to put into the 'rant/bitch/moan' and 'woot' style threads being in the big bad world....

Oh for God's sake, an SU motion about boards.ie? How ridiculously, ridiculously stupid.

And the SU further mandate Google to open a TCD-specific search . Private. Property.

I could well imagine Tom telling the SU to **** off. Any such motion could potentially back fire hugely.

well aslong as its a joke its all good...

think it was meant with humourous intent.

would be funny to present Tom etc with it though.

    "Dear Tom,

The students of Trinity have mandated your company to provide us with even more free services. Can you also please send us a free pizza (no anchovies) and a bottle of non-Coca Cola coke?

    Yours Sincerely,

    Joe Trinner"

I support the concept, its a subforum, give it a go!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

    Nah - what's the point?

If ya wanna post on matters relating to TCD, voila, you have a Trinity forum. I don't see the point of an alumni subforum tbh. Just continue to post on the TCD forum after you graduate - it's not like there are laws against that or anythin. Sure blondie83 graduated from UCD last year, but she still pops up on the UCD forum occasionally.

Altho I do like the idea of somebody bringing it up at the SU Council... That'd be hilarious... Especially if LiouVille words the motion...

I only appreciate the pav on fridays, when already pissed. more of a buttery man for a casual drink tough.

    Doyle's for the win.

Shall be there tomorrow afternoon to celebrate the end of Schols!

By the way, I'm typing like a mother-fu*cking machine here on the flat tax. I'm worse than the typing lady! Such articulate ranting never have I seen! I tells ya I'm gonna waltz into the exam hall tomorrow to strut my stuff. It will be legendary. I'm even going to use Latin phrases to give my essay less of "SCREW YOU FASCIST BASTARDS!" tone and give it some gravitas. I'm going like a man possessed here. I wrote the above in less than twenty seconds!!
