    I'm a capital gimp.
I can't play online, no matter how hard I try, I'm crapola spread on sh1t toast.
I have done reasonably well in my last 6 live tourneys (4 x final tables), I have a rudimentary grasp of this game we play aiming to improve as we all do yet I suck the big one when I sit in front of the computer.
Can anyone relate to do this at all or am I just one big monkey wrench of a spanner!!:confused::confused:

I understand where you are coming from,

What site are you playing on?
What games are you playing on, hold em i presume (cash, stt, mtt?)
What levels are you playing at, ie what buy in.

I found that when I first started playing online it was a lot harder to bluff people off pots and you had to be a lot more patient, I found it harder to concentrate when playing online. I think, like with cash vs tournement poker, there is a significant difference between live and online poker.

Tells for example, with online play, tells are mostly connected with betting patterns, ie. what does your opponent tend to bet with certain cards. For example if you spot that one of your opponent always raises x4bb with big hands (AA,KK,QQ) then be wary when he does this.

I've just recently started playing PPP (influenced by this forum) and Boylesports and Party in the past.
You presume correctly, stts would be my most breakevenable(5, 10 & 20), mtts I implode on a regular basis and cash(.5/1, 1/2) I keep meeting nasty bends on the river!
I agree with you about concentration and patience, I find it difficult to pay attention to the actions of players online, whereas live it's much easier to keep track, obviously work required here!
I also put the cart before the horse a bit by playing two or three tables to alleviate my short attention span, I should really master one before I trying the multi thing.
    Cheers for reply

Roryc is the bad beat specialist, (receiving them that is)

Definately try starting with one table also do you have a bankroll system in place?

Also I found it helpfull to mainly concentrate on one area of online play.
I for example almost soley play stts with maybe one mtt a week or something like that. It really seems to hone your skills on certain aspects of your game,
obviously a bit of variation never hurts but I wouldnt reccommend hopping from cash to mtt to stt too often.

Ashamed to say no such system in place, any suggestions?
Will definitely stick with stt's for the time being, still looking for a good mtt (20 -50 buy-in), what do you reckon?

Well I started off with ladbrokes lodging fifty euro/$60.

I played ten dollar sit and goes till I got enough for twelve buy ins for the 10dollar sngs, equalling $130 (10+1 *12)...... I know that equals 132 but dont be picky :).

Then I continued this until I got up to 260 which is 12 buy ins for the 20dollars sngs. I continued playing the ten dollar games as I was fairly comfortable at these, continually placing in the money, the twenty dollar games I felt were harder.
But then last two months I have been having terrible variance which has seen my bank roll dip down to the 100dollar mark, which means back to 5dollar games for the moment.

Some people like to take a percentage of there winnings out of their account which is fair enough but I dont as I'm really only in it to build up a bankroll to play bigger tournements with more skillfull players.

But if you use the X12 buy in rule you shouldnt go broke. :)

And it should help you overcome any bad swings.

Also with online poker as with offline poker it is best advised not to play when you are sleepy or drunk.

Unfortunately I have on many occasions diminished my bank roll by thinking that by playing while drunk my cash game will all of a sudden be good...... This is not the case.

Play online poker when drunk. You will win

Cheers Shout, I shall now go forward with renewed vim and vigour ready to rule to green baize!!
Seriously, I had no structure whatsoever and I guess that was only compounding my beatings, I appreciate the advice, it might just work!

youngza, id recommend freezeout tourns, simply because they're not as many luck box fish that enter them..will give you room for more solid play. try steer clear of the 3min blind speed tourns, which i cannot seem to stay away from :D ...

Those speedy ones are fun alright, I think I was just being too feckless in my approach to playing (ie chopping and changing types of games, being too loose), something I wouldn't do live.
I now have ice in my veins, nitrogen breath and frosty balls and will from now on freeze out the freeze outs!!
