Ok Im trying to convert some of my .avi films to DVD's so I can watch them on any DVD Player.

So far I ahve tried DIKO and AvitoDVD. Both seem to do the job but takes ****ing ages to do. Like a 45 minute film takes about 1hour and 10minutes to convert to a DVD (.vob) file, never mind the buring of it.

Is there a faster soultion. My PC is a P4 2.4Ghz with 768Mb of Ram. Surely it cant take this long......

    Any ideas?

Dont think so, im doin the same at the moment using Sonic, taking me about 45 minutes to make a dvd. Would like to know if there is a faster way but i dont think so.

Their isn't really whole lot you can do other then get a faster CPU as there is little room for improvement in the area of optimization for MPEG2 encoding as MPEG 2 is quite an old codec at this point.

I use ConvertXToDVD (and before that Nero) still takes an hour maybe two hours to convert 4-5 43min MPEG4 TV episodes to a single DVD and that's with an Athlon 64 X2 4400. Try the demo version to compare it the encoding time against what your currently using, the demo adds a watermark to the video.

Quickest easiest solution, get yourself a divx dvd player, aldi do them every now and then for around 40-50 yoyos. smartest thing i ever bid because ripping was a pain in the behind.

Divx. That sounds like the best solution.

So a Data DVD with about 10 .avi files on it will play no prob on a divx dvd player!?

Do i have to burn the DVD a certain way or anything??

AFAIK they just work. Alternative solution is to hook the PC up to the TV and just play them directly. Not sure if they'll play xvid files. I use xvid myself mostly.
