fear and loathing in las vegas?

    Christiane F: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082176/
The Panic in Needle Park: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067549/

Christiane F ain't entertaining though. It's one of the most harrowing films ever. However it's extremely realistic.

I'd second Rush, a great film

There's also Spun. Not strictly a "heroin" film, but not a million miles away either.

    Slightly off-topic, but:

Fearless Freaks, a documentary on the Flaming Lips recently released on DVD (and highly recommended!), has a very candid scene of one of the band members injecting himself with heroin as he talks about how he's tried to get clean etc. Very powerful, and worth a look.

I wouldnt have Traffic at number 2 or Requiem for a dream at number 1.
They are good films but not the top 2 imo.

'H' Can't get a more direct film title!

    IMDB: http://www.us.imdb.com/title/tt0128246/

    CNDB: http://www.cndb.com/movie.html?title=H+%281990%29

    Martin Neufeld .... Snake
    Pascale Montpetit .... Michele
    Ingrid Veninger .... Kathleen
    Bruce Beaton .... Franco

Very intense film, great acting. Its been on BBC2\Channel 4 once or twice. Feels a bit stage bound, as it basically takes place in one or two rooms. Doesn't make for comfortable viewing.

Basically, two people lock themselves away to go cold turkey, then they start to talk things over..

I had the hots something awful for Pascale Montpetit (IMDB). Probably watch the film now and find it labored somewhat.

Yeah, haven't seen it but it looks like an absolute cack-fest. Jonas Akerlund should stick to music vids.

God yes... Spun was horrible... I actually sat through it one night there recently.

I'd completely forgotten about it too until now... thanks a bunch!

    Jesus' Son

Stars: Billy Crudup, Samantha Morton, Jack Black, Dennis Leary, Holly Hunter and Dennis Hopper.

A great film with a really good soundtrack.

I can't believe that no-one has suggested the original, the classic...

    REEFER MADNESS!!!

Made in the mid-30's, it's was hilarious government-backed movie about the 'horrors' of marajuana.

Anyone see the musical remake with Kristen Bell (yummy!)?

You could always give Reefer Madness a watch!! Ever seen it?
Unintentionally hilarious 30's movie warning bout the horrors of dating Mary Jane!! Ironically, best viewed when one is baked!! Yea Spun was all over the gaff!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

But Reefer Madness is about marijuana, not heroin or other such hard substances.

A part from all the ones mentioned all I can think of is 'Rules of Attraction', although not a Heroin movie, it does have a good bit of drug use in it and is really good.

Permanent Midnight - about the life of the guy who wrote 'Alf' in the 80s. Ben Stiller is amazing in it and it's worth watching (if you can ignore Elizabeth Hurley's contribution).

Where the Buffalo Roam! I must be the last person on earth to have seen this movie!! Anyone else? I think Bill Murray's understated(compared to Depps) take on Thompson is very engaging. As your lawyer I highly recommend that u c it ASAP!! Now if you'll excuse me I have to open a window and let these bats out!! They're everywhere...
How bout Salton Sea with Val Kilmer? It was on Tv3 a couple o weeks a go and I missed it! Anyone seen it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭DamoKen

that reminds me, Buffalo Soldiers (the one with Joachim Phoenix). Some very funny moments i.e tank crew off their tits go to town avec tank :D

Great movie, still prefer Fear and Loathing over Where the buffalo roam. I'm not a fan of bill murray. I'm dying to see Breakfast with Hunter, it's more of a doc though.
