Printer not printing properly to dvd

I use my Epson r300 to print directly to full-cover dvds, but the last few I've tried today, the end result is faded and there are gaps between the lines. I printed off a few before that and they were fine - I didn't change anything in between each one and the ink cartridges are brand new.

Standard printing is fine, but I bought this printer especially for its capability to print to dvd, I'd hate to lose it.

check to make sure the cartridges are in fully, they'll click, I've the same machine. you can also run printer tests under the printer option in the Control panel, see if it'll print a test page correctly.

Thanks, I ran the test option and indeed the black ink was very sparse. I elected to "clean the nozzle" so I'll see what happens when I do a print next.

Are the cartridges original Epson carts or cheap brand compatibles?

Epson original brand. I had refilled the previous cartridges which I thought might have something to do with it, but no, this is a recurring problem. I have to clean the nozzle after every 5-6 dvd prints
