I know a lot of people have worked and traveled in australia but has anyone got any stories about working in new zealand. Is it similar to australia in pay and ease of getting jobs.

Seasonal work should be easy enough to get, eg fruit picking etc. The Bay Of Islands is a good place for fruit picking, also Gisborne/Napier.

Bar work also seems easy enough to get, I know of a few people who got work, not to sure if they had work permits, don't think so.

There are Irish bars around (suprise suprise), they are usually a good place to ask about the lay of the land so to speak...

If your in Auckland theres a bar call the Claddagh in Newmarket which is run by a guy from Limerick (forget his name), he helped out my girlfriend. But this was 7 years ago, so don't know if he is still there...

I'm in NZ at the moment on a working holiday visa. I haven't done much traveling around yet, staring next week! Ive been working in Auckland. I think it'd handy enough to find jobs but I worked in Sydney before here and the pay is worse here and the cost of living is the same. I'd recommend it though cos it seems everyone goes to Oz and it's nice to go somewhere where there are less Irish people than at home.
    Good luck!

I did a year working holiday in NZ and loved it - if you're looking for something a little different than Oz and not full of Irish and British back packers its great.

I lived and worked in Wellington - really cool city. I'd recommend it and Christchurch above Auckland (which is a kip to be honest). The scenery in the South Island is spectacular. If you're into your outdoor activities (snow-boarding, sky diving, etc) I'd recommend Queenstown and Wanaka.

Feel free to pm me with other questions.
