    Hi Folks,

I currently have normal sky satelitte system and am moving house
    - problem is I do not want to get a fixed line in my new house
    - but would like to get sky installed (I was told fixed line is a pre-req for this)

Q> does anbody know if it is possible to get it installed without a landline?
Q> Is there a company in south dublin area that you would recommend to do this?

    Many thanks,
    BW

Yes, you pay something like 37.50 Euro extra, then no phone required.

The only thing that absolutely MUST have a phone line is two boxes on a discount subscription, Sky call it a Mirror Subscription.

How long do you have your current system?

If you have it longer than a year, then you're no longer obliged to connect it to a phoneline. You can just take the box with you and getting a local installer to set you up in your new home. You'll just need to tell Sky you moved home.

I'd suggest taking the dish too unless it looks rusty, where it's better to leave it behind and get a new one.

I moved last year, and there wasn't a mention or issue re: having a phone line (we didn't have the new house set up with phone at that stage).

I just phoned Sky, their moving house deal at the time (have Sky Plus) was €60. You take your box and remote and leave the dish behind. If the new house has a dish already, they'll use it, if not, they put up a new one.

It was a super-efficient process, and they were by far the easiest service provider to deal with in the whole moving house saga.

Sky waived the charge for relocation of my Sky+ last year, and provided a new dish and quad for free.

They were about to charge me when I called to change address and wanted the payment by credit card or debit card, but when I said I had neither, after a quick consultation with a supervisor or someone else, they let me have it free!

Hi Guys, Many thanks to all for suggestions and feedback (including Private Messgaes ;) )

    Guess I will

    a) take my Sat System with me and just get a friend to re-hook it back-up in new house and just pay subscription as normal (e.g. don't even tell them I have moved)
    (free but maybe messy)

    B) As I've had it for more than a year - call the people at Sky and get them to put up new sat dish and just move the sky box and remote (37.50 | to | 60 euro | or | free if you haggle)

    Thanks All,

    BW

I'd probably say go for option B, but keep your existing dish too ;) Handy for backup, or sell it in classified paper for a few bob!:)
