I've been all around that area and I can highly recommend Dubrovnik and Budapest. Zagreb is a bit of a kip to be honest. I'd also visit Krakow before Warsaw.

I'd agree with the last post. I didn't make it to Dubrovnik but heard it's amazing. Zagreb has nice people but not that impressive as a city.

Budapest is really great, would love to go back. If you're staying in hostels, there is one there called the Yellow Submarine which is very good. As far as food goes, try and find a restaurant called 'Sir Lancealot' its got amazing portions and really tasty. The baths are good way to relax, especially after days of travel. The river tour is good, get to see most of the sights and find out about the city.

Bratislava is nice but quite. For some reason the appartments available for rent for travelers are amazingly nice for very low prices.

Krakow is good fun alright, I didnt go to Warsaw but was told it's not that great. If you're in Krakow head over to Auschwitz, its a unique experience.

heya, just came back from a week in Hungary! it was amazing...really cool country, budapest is a lovley city too. and its differnt enough still, i mean prague is gorgeous but the last i went was 2 years ago and it had become very commercial and touristy. i love going to a place where its a bit different and not totally taken over with tourists and souvineer shops!! anyway Hungary is fab would defo recomend it. i thought it was great value for money - i mean we had a meal for two, wine, main courses, dessert, liquers after dinner - and when we converted the cost it came to just 24e. now that was a fab resteraunt too. so very good value. if u go to budapest go to the Liszt Ferrecn ter, it has really great resteraunts and pubs - Menza is a great resteraunt. anyway enjoy the travelling!!! :)

Nice itinerary but be aware that is no train line to Dubrovnik. Closest one is Bar in Montenegro, although this is a main line to Belgrade. Internal flights with Croatia Airlines from Zagreb to Dubrovnik are pretty cheap though.

I'm in Dubrovnic at the moment, the major drawback here is getting around. It's 4 1/2 hours by bus to Dubrovnic from Split (which is worth going to to see the islands) Split's 8 hours from Vienna by train.
