Strange booting problem

I've a 5 year old Gateway P3 550 running Windows 2000. When I boot up, the Gateway logo comes up and it freezes before the memory loads. I have to hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn it off and when I turn it on again everything works fine. Has anyone any ideas on what's causing this?

Your memory could be faulty perhaps, have a look here
