You have to sign up, but it's free
They also have a results area where you can view your speed over time

Yea its probably the best for Ireland.
Their summary at present only lists the last 10 Results,
so its a good idea to save them and over time it should give a good
    idea about your stats.

Maybe Blacknight will up-grade it, and keep longer stats, so when contacting your ISP you can give them an independent status of your broadband speed

Trying a test download from a reliable site as well is probably one of the most accurate readings you will get.

Remember to disable anything that might be using a lot of your bandwidth for really accurate readings (limewire, Skype, MSN etc.)

    try downlaoding from here
    http://ftp.ie.debian.org/debian-cd/3.0_r4/alpha/
they have a high bandwidth connection.

Those website speed indicators are never right imho

I think Magnet offer 24 meg DSL.
Has anyone actually got this? And if so, are you getting anywhere close to 24 mb/s?

its 250 euro I think, not many people would really

The only people able to afford that connection would be a businesss.

24Mbit/s is the absolute maximum....15-20Mbit/s is far more likely.

I have access to eircoms 5Mbit/s connection for €160excl.VAT a month....but Im currently located in Limerick and Magnet have no short term prospects of moving here!

Just a note on irishisptest. We actually keep all your test results :)

We only display the last 10... I think perhaps this could be extended. Since we started the new site and upto right now we're recorded 26928 test results :)

    Pretty damned impressive IMO :)

I'll talk to the developer about maybe allowing a csv dump of the results.

that would be handy if it was accurate, which it is not!

It is accurate. Many 1000's of users results are accurate. Some providers who are unable to connect to us at INEX (NTL being the only one ..) may have issues for the moment. But mostly all of our users get good accurate results.
