Insuring a mobile device

If this is in the wrong forum please move it. This seems to be as close to an "insurance" forum as I could fine.

I've recently purchased an Imate Smartphone. It cost me €450 so I'd like to get it insured if possible. I'm with O2 at the moment for my mobiles, but their €9pm insurance only covers handsets they support officially on their network.

Would anyone be able to suggest an insurance company who'd give me a simply online quote for such a device? Or a reasonable insurance quote?

    Cheers

I don't know about online quotes, but your best bet is probably to talk to an insurance broker. Often times, house insurance can cover things like laptops even when they're not in the house, so it may be possible to stipulate this device in the home insurance, if you have home insurance. If not, it may be possible to get it insured on it's own. Talk to a broker is the best bet though.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll have a look around ... I just feel like a prat walking into an insurance place and asking them .. I hate them !

I've heard the excess fees on house insurance can be quite high, so make sure to check that too.

Had my phone stolen last year. My house insurance paid the full price of the replacement. No excess the following year because of the ammount.

Check with your house insurance. :)

Carphone Warehouse have a deal with "Homecare Insurance" so you can call into a shop or call 1800 924 264. They underwrite Vodafone Stay insurance and Meteor Minder insurance, not sure about O2, so they specialise in mobiles. That or adding it onto the home insurance, as the other lads said.
