Two Gateways......

I got a workstation which contains two 10/100 NICS now the problem I am having is as follows: we have two separate LANS I am connected individually to each of them through each NIC in this instance lets called it LAN1 & LAN2 now the issue is my primary work is on LAN1 which supply me network credentials and other resources Proxy etc, but on occasions I have to check few servers other resources on LAN2, I cant seem to get the balance right now I use mozilla and IE 7 (I know its beta don’t worry about it) , what I would like to do is have my internet explorer connected through my proxy to LAN1 and Mozilla to LAN2 without proxy that means my pc wont get confuse which resource to look at when I try to access, I know the obvious way would be a router but I don’t want that.

    (It's a Windows XP service Pack 2)
I have tried the following playing around with metrics for the gateway, assigning Static IPs on both card for two different LANs, working with Windows XP bridging etc no joy, the only thing I didn’t try is adding "Add route" separately through command prompt although I am not certain how I would go about defining the route ??.
Maybe if there is way of adding separate route for separate protocol or application not sure though… any view or new ideas would be great??

I am also using application such as VNC, Netsupport etc on my Wks

Not sure exactly how you'd do it in mozilla, but in IE (or pre-7 versions anyway) in the lan settings you can tick to Bypass proxy server for local addresses and behind the advanced button you can set the addresses to ignore e.g. 127.0.0.1;192.168.1.* etc. That's let you use mozilla through the proxy and IE for local LAN2 sites. I'm sure there's similar functionality in mozilla too to let you use them your preferred way too.

Yeh i got that tick on IE but that allows me to access resources on Local Intranet sites on LAN1 i suppose it only by passes to local addresses....but the problem remain the same how to get two gateways working on one Workstation.
IE & Mozilla was just an example of http applications i want to use on my Wks, i am scavenging through my old CCNA books to see if i can find an answer to all this :(

on card 1 have your default gateway.

leave the default gateway on card 2 blank and add a persitent route for that network

    route -p blah blah

Sorry, thought it was only http you were looking for. You could try enabling routing on your machine so that it'll act as a router itself. I'm not 100% sure how it's done on XP but I think you just have to enable the routing and remote access service and it'll take care of everything. This would naturally let your machine act as a router for other machines on either LAN, if thats not desirable you can probably take care of it with TCP/IP filtering and/or a firewall.
