Cleaning Keyboards

I must get a can of air, but that'll only get rid of dust, not the gunk that builds up on the sides of keys. What do you guys use to get everything out of all the nooks and crannys?

EDIT: I have no intention of a) dismantling it; or b) buying a new one. I'm simply looking for cleaning recommendations, in place.

Pop out every key (but line them up as you go, so you know which way to put them back in :)) - mmm, hairy.

Dismantel the keyboard (Take the eletric bits out, they come out in one piece) then pop out the keys, and wash in warm water then dry. Having another keyboard near, or a picture on the screen of how the keys go back before you start is a good idea. Or you could just buy a cheap new one :)

Cleaning is more eco-friendly tbh... unless your keyboard is bio-degradable in which case you can just compost it.

Anyway, I'd do pretty much the same as Lump there, only I know where all the keys go without having to look at a reference. (send medal by registered post only)

    Aha!
Yeah I don't often feel like dismantling either.
In which case it's a folded damp jay-cloth... work it between the keys etc.
Turning the keyboard upside-down and shaking the shít out of it gets a lot of the dust/ciggy-ash/hair out from between/under the keys aswell... but doing that can sometimes make matters worse as things get shaken further into the keyboard.

I haven't found a good substitute for dismantling... but one thing I thought of doing was using the plastic-sheet-circuit-thingy-that's-inside™ on its own on the desk... afaicr it worked alright for the few minutes I was arsed trying it.

Get a packet of baby wipes and use them they are very good cleaners (designed to remove sh1t from baby bottoms) They will remove whatever grime is on it* and leave a fragrance of lavendar or something. Just remove the keyboard and take it to a table and wipe it down there then.
