    Hi people,
Could anyone tell me of a program that i could use to stop people on my computer looking up suicide sites and porn sites on my computer??

I dont want anything that takes up large cpu and something that my friend will be aware is going to stop him to look up these sites ( a program that runs in the background completely if u will )

I have checked out Norton's program and i hate it!! lol

Anybody here know of any good programs that fit this description???

    Thanks!!,
    Dave

are you talking free software or willing to pay for a proper hardware firewall with content filtering ( SONICWALL etc) ?

There are programs that can run on your local PC, such as WeBlocker. But the best solution (esp if you use broadband) would be to get a second PC with two network cards and install a content-filter proxy such as Censornet. (Censornet is based on the award-winning Dansguardian filter program and the Squid Proxy system).

You set one network card to connect to your broadband modem and the other to connect to your PC or a switch. Then you setup Censornet to work as a transparent proxy which means that your friend or anyone else on your computer will automaticaly connect through the censornet proxy, which will happily block nasty sites.

Depending on your router, it is possible to black certain keywords in sites. It's possible with a Netgear D834 anyway.

I'd to look this up for a friend a couple of weeks ago.

I found 2 free ones that seem to do a good job.

http://www.radiance.m6.net/ naomi - freeware internet filter

This one is easy to use but the options that come with it are limited. You cannot change what it blocks, how it deals with blocked sites etc.

    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pfilter.html -- parental filter

This one is slightly harder to setup, requires a few options to be changed after installation.
But it allows you full options over what is blocked or allowed.

If your friend is looking up suicide sites, maybe someone should talk with him/her?
