Do Computers etc. when plugged in but on standby really use half the electricity?

Regardless, yeah, it does help massively - last night I left my laptop on 100% battery and standby, and the battery only died ten hours later. Normally it's dead after two hours' activity.

Why not just shut it down? When the computer's in Standby it disables everything really.... Like Netwrok cards and such, so you can't leave a pc downloading when on Standby.

hey singingstranger how old/big is your lappy?

Left mine on stadby when I though I had switched it off. Came back after work (12 -13hrs) still had over 50% battery.

Standby shuts down almost everything but keeps the core programs in windows ticking over (I think) this means it only takes a second or two to start it up again.

Oh and Lump if you know your going to be using your computer in the next hour or so but you don't want those fans buggin you you put it in standby so you dont have to sit there for 5 min to boot it up again.

Yes your mother did lie. And if she can lie about this she could lie about anything. Maybe you could talk to a prest about getting her blessed or something. I fear the dark lord is to blame here
