i'm having problems with video playback. for example, when i'm on the apple trailers site the trailers play but at twice the regular speed - it's as if they're in fast forward. this also happens when i open video files in either WMP, Winamp or DivX.

    Any suggestions?

That is unusual as Quicktime is a self contained application whereas the others share video codecs. Nothing was changed in the system or anything odd installed ?

Cant say I know what it could be so here are some wild shot in the dark suggestions

    Cheers for the tips.
I managed to narrow down the problem. I have the Creative Extigy and I even noticed that audio files were doing the same thing so I ended up uninstalling the Creative Extigy driver and I'm using the onboard soundcard for the moment.

Interesting, if you want to try it again I would suggest the use the latest driver versions if you haven't already there is also a firmware update for the device on Creatives site.

Also purely from curiosity I wonder how it would fair with reclock installed which installs itself as an audio filter but it is designed to sync the FPS of a video for smooth playback (might work and might not do anything).

I got the driver updates from Creative and installed them.

I also installed ReClock and WMP Classic.

The problem still existed so I ended up removing Extigy driver.

I think it may be due to the fact I'm using an AMD processor (see attached screenshot)
