The Competition Act 2006 comes into effect tomorrow (Monday 20th March). And the Groceries Order is no more.

Expect bargains galore in the supermarkets ;)

As long as its with-in reason, and we don't end up with the situation we had 20yrs ago, with the major supermarkets pushing suppliers to the brink, and indeed, pushing many into closure, by forcing them to either reduce prices to facilitate below cost selling, or lose the supply contract. The supermarkets lost nothing by selling 10p sliced pans, but a lot of bakery's went bust. At least it might force the so-called convienience stores to reduce prices a bit. They have been taking full advantage of this order, and have been ripping us off more than the supermarkets have ever been.

Balls. There were less than 20 things covered by the grocery order. Less than 20 things that they were not allowed to sell below cost price. Tesco stocks thousands of items, had they wanted to they could have have hundreds of things below cost.

These companies are monsters. There is no "within reason" with them. Do you think they actually care if they force suppliers to go bust? Fcuk no. There will be one to replace them.

Activists that are against the spead of of companies like walmart thought our groceries order was a good thing. St Vincent de Paul argued to keeping it for Christ's sake.
