I've stayed in the Millenium Hilton and the Afifina (33 st. on 7th Ave.). The Hilton would be the snazzier of the two but I prefered the Affina because of its location. Its Across the street from Madison Square Garden and Penn station and about a 3 minuate walk to Times Square. The Millenium is just across the street for ground zero which might not be to everyones liking, but it gets fairly quiet after 10p.m in that area so thats either a good or bad thing depending on who you are. In my opinion the Affina is a great choice because of its location and the rooms are nice aswel, you instantly feel as if you're rigt in th heart of New York when you stay there.

I have been caught our on this on and am glad to leave my recommendations

    1) the Wellington: beside Central park – its functional (like most of the hotels in NY) great location, beside a subway and in a great area – tip of the day if you are staying there (or not) go to the Carnegie Diner – fab place adorned with the signed pics of people who have played in the Carnegie Hall
    2) the Towers At The New Yorker lovely hotel opposite Madison Square garden – again of you are staying there check out what on (basketball) in the Gardens and try and get tickets – mega.

Enjoy – I will spend a lifetime going to NY!

When in New York I stay at the Hotel Pennsylvania its a huge hotel (1700 rooms) right in the hart of Manhattan, right next door to Macy's and across the street from Madison Square Garden and one block from the Empire State building what more can you ask for....well there is a subway station right at the door....and I got my room for $99 a night, you get the 4th night free. Here is a link to the hotel but to get these prices you have to book online.

Good luck you will have a ball.

Stayed there myself but wouldnt recommend it, the foyer is lovely but once you go upstairs thought it was very grubby and old, my mates had cockroaches in their room

The Hotel Pennsylvania is a good Hotel for that price,I agree that some of the rooms in the old part are not up to scratch but the hotel is Huge and they have no problem changing a room for you.

    Good luck.

Myself and 3 of my friends stayed in an apartment for about 4 days, it was much better than a hotel (and actually a lot cheaper) u could chill out and we had friends over on 2 seperate nights.

Would totally recommend it for a stay of longer than 3 days.

This is the website we used.

There were really cool and answered any questions I had.

I stayed last november in the chelsealodge in chelsea district. I have put a full report on tripadvisor.com. Go and see it. You will get a wealth of information about hotels and the city in general. Look under chelsea lodge for my report - i am scouser@esatclear.ie. I have even got photos on it. You can also research any hotel in NY and read other peoples reviews. Some are horrific!

    Enjoy your trip

I stay at the International Hostel on Amsterdam ave. Sure, its a hostel, but you can get a double privateroom for less than the cost of most hotel rooms. The location is central enough, and theres a few cheap eating options right outside the door.

Hotels can be expensive in the city. Try www.nyhabitat.com I have used them twice and they have been excellent.
