7.7 million sky subscribers in the U.K. Don't know what the average monthly sub would be in the UK, maybe £20-25 ? All adds up to mega-buck for Mr Murdoch.

Their aim is to get £600 per subscriber. Only half from subscriptions, the rest via interactive phone servcies.

Freeview has been spectacularly successful in the UK. 10 million users in less then 2 years.

It is now a major concern for Sky. Sky doesn't see itself adding many new customers over the next 5 years, instead it plans to improve profit margins by offering high value services such as HD and VoD.

However the BBC/ITV Freesat consortium will me a major threat to that goal.

Another big danger could be BT's plans. At the moment Sky's advantage over Freeview is that Freeview lacks interactivity, as wide a range of channels and VoD.

BT plan to lunch a service that integrates Freeview and DSL in one box with the DSL taking care of interactivity, VoD and maybe even extra IPTV channels. This would be a major threat to Sky.
