I have been using hotmail since past 7 years and the quota on Account has start bugging me and i am personally not inclined to pay for the Subscription to upgrade my MS account but recently i manage to open a Gmail account which provides quiet a substancial amount of space plus POP3/SMTP services which is great so i thought maybe i can slowly phase out my hotmail account but i am not sure how to go about doing that what i would like to do is download all my Hotmail emails to my Gmail account if possible or forward all my emails to gmail any ideas ?
    cheers

Did you upgrade your Hotmail account to 250MB for free already? You know, by closing it and reopening it as a US account.

you can increase your hotmail size to 250mb. here's how:

go into the options and change your country to america, state to florida and zip to 33332.

then close your account. the quickest way to find the option is to go to the help section and search for close account.

then go to log in as normal. make sure it goes to the main hotmail page and not that one where its remembered your address so its written on the page and not in a text box.

when you log in it'll ask you to activate your account. activate it and click past all the ad things. when you get through you'll have 25mb available. after a week or two it may or may not change to 250mb. whether it does or not seems to be random

Best idea, get yourself a Yahoo account, gives you 1GB email, a geocities website (15MB), a Briefcase (30MB private file store), groups and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Don't know if it's any use to you but everybody I've met in the UK or Holland have got free 250 mb hotmail. I just changed my country of residence in the personal info to Netherlands. One week later I had 250 mb. I was in Holland when I did this, a friend did here in Ireland and it didn't work.

When you close and reopen account, does it wipe out your inbox ?

    I know how you feel

I was a bit hesitant to do it because I thought I would lose everything, but I went with the guide that I was following and closed it and reopened it and didn't lose anything!!! :)

If it reassures you you could back-up your email just in case, but I have never heard of anyone who lost their email using this trick

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 565 ✭✭✭zokrez

yeah it worked and it gave me the 25mb immediately.

I have 2GBs of space on my hotmail account for free!

Im testing Windows Live Mail beta for them!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 232 ✭✭KrankStricher

So what? doesn't that meant you have to fill out firms and stuff, why not just go with g-mail I don't get it.

I was going to test that Beta but then decided no, what's the use

    Gmail is 10x better anyway

G-Mail, you have to be "invited" and they read your E-Mail.

Yahoo also lets you open multiple accounts if you need to I have 3. My main account, another one for potentially risky (re: spam) activities, and another for my Deus Ex gaming clan.

    I wouldn't bother with G-Mail TBH.

The worst thing about Hotmail is the worthless spam filter. They're going to all this effort to improve the UI with Windows Live Mail but seem to be doing sfa to combat spam. Gmail on the other hand catches hundreds of spam messages every month(it's not like the spammers aren't trying) but only lets one through once in a blue moon.

How do you know that they read your e-mail??

I know that bots scan your email so the ads can match the subject of your email on the side of the page but they don't actually read your email

And it is easy to get invites, just ask anybody here on boards.ie and they will help you out

If anyone wants an invite to gmail just PM me ;)

Also, what's to stop you having as much accounts as you want on gmail. One for main email, one for spam, one for gaming clans (if you so wish) and one for gmail space (extension for firefox, allows you to upload files onto your gmail space)

Here is the equation ;): GMAIL > YAHOO => YAHOO > HOTMAIL => HOTMAIL > feck all ;)

How are ye' doin GMail is the best offers the most space, better spam filters, accessible services (google.com/ig, personalized homepage etc.). Google has a smart system though it is only a beta yet. (ie. If u sign up for an external service, gmail wont put it in the spam box where as Yahoo will)

I have plenty invites left and if you want one just email me (Nev.Farrell@GMail.com)

There is also a feature accessible to webmasters which I use, ie. at your website create a forwarder (me@MyDomain.com) and at your GMail account Create an account that you can 'Send mail as' (Me@MyDomain.com). I thought I would say that because it is a nw feature. You use GMail high storage for your website and not your own space
