    What TV do you have....?

Also have you switched on the HD on the cable? Also what do you mean MS where to dumb? What 360 package did you buy...the basic package does not come with component...

you also have to switch it on in console settings as well as switching it on on the cable itself

which settings do i change yes the cable is on hd and its a samsung 32 inch hd tv.

There's a switch on the connector to the xbox that has to be changed to HD, I did the same thing. I thought I got ripped but when you chenge it over you'll see the difference.

Then go into visual settings on the xbox and change it to 720 and you should be good to go.

How does this relate to this thread?

OP, what do you mean "there's no HD". Are you getting a picture at all?

Have you enabled 720p in the 360 options?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭WarZoneBrother

i think ma settings are on 720p and the quality of the picture is same as CRT tv so its not HD just normal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭JacoStanley

Make sure the you've got all the component cables in correctly. ie, the 3 cables for the picture and the 2 cables for the sound all in the right slots. Make sure your tv is on the hd channel if it has one. Make sure the switch on the component cables located at the connecting point on the 360 is switched to hd. Turn on the 360, flick over to the system tab, go into console settings, display and screen resolution. Set the resolution to 1280x720 which should give you the best picture available.

Okay, you 'think' your settings are on 720p???.....well maybe if you actually go and check if it is on these settings or set to HD for 720 or 1080 then people might be more willing to help you...

I have a Samsung and have no problem with HD, if you had it set to HD on the cable and it was not HD you would get a blue screen, so it sounds to me like you have HD it's just your expectations that are possibly too high...

yes it is on 720p and my brother says its still not HD.Cables are in the right place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

well your brothers dumb, make sure the settings are set to high def, the button on av lead is set to hd-def, and the tv is on the right av channel.

yes it is on 720p and my brother says its still not HD.Cables are in the right place.

There should be a "Display" or "Info" button on your TV remote. Press that and you will see if the picture is 720p or not. If it says 720p, then it's, well, 720p. If it shows no picture size, it's SD.

How does he know its not HD?

Have you checked in the TV menu to see is there anything to tell you what resolution the screen is running at?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭WarZoneBrother

ill try that tomorrow i am running 360 on normal tv now.and he knows by the quality of the picture.how else can you know.

    Hi,

Here are a few of ways to tell...

First check the cabling. The HD AV cable for the 360 has 6 connectors which are blue-green-red (1st part) and yellow-red-white (2nd part). You have to make sure that ONLY the blue-green-red (1st part) and red-white (2nd part) are plugged in. The yellow cable is for standard definition, as you know, and is not needed.

Second, make sure the Xbox 360 is set to use 720p (not 480p or 1080i). And as mentioned above, make sure the switch on the adapter (where it plugs into the Xbox 360) is set to HDTV and NOT TV.

And one final way. Load any EA game and it will display an EA HD logo (you can't miss it - it will display full screen!). If the Xbox 360 is not in HD mode, all EA games will just say "HD compatible for optimal gaming".

(If you don't happen to have an EA game or demo, download one from Xbox live - there are several to choose from)

    - Neil

You've to put the sound through an amp of maybe your hifi (thats what I've one). I got ordered this adaptor in order to get the sound through me TV, here it is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭WarZoneBrother

Keyser thats all well and good but even if that does work I dont see why I should have to get sound from my hi fi system, I want to get sound from my tv and I should be able to.

    I have both these cables:-

    VGA Cable - http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=X360&title=719745

    Component cable - http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=srmr&page=title&r=X360&title=742126

Now with the VGA cable I have a excellent picture I know its HD only problem is I have no sound. With the componenet cable I have good enough picture but not HD and it has sound. What I want is to get sound with my vga cable.

I have been browsing play.com and seen this vga cable. It seems to be different vga cable to the one I have link of it shown below:-

    http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=X360&title=741485

Can anyone tell me whats the difference in the 2 vga cables I have listed?

    Thanks for your help

You need to conect the red and white audio cables to something, like a set of pc speakers or an amp, or you need to get an optical cable and connect to an av reciever, there is very little difference between the two cables you showed, only one has an optical cable in the picture too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭WarZoneBrother

where can I buy the optical cable on its own online anyone know?

    thanks

    Ebay?! probably your best bet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

Your TV can't accept an optical signal. Just plug the two phono (red and white) cable coming from the VGA lead into your TV. This will give you sound from the TV.

That might not work tho, well on my tv it wouldnt because when you got o the vga signal it doesnt take sound from anywhere else?! like the red and white are for when you go to av3 or something, could be different on his tv tho, suppose give it a try!

i plug red and white cable in tv it wouldnt work.i put them in hi fi and it worked

Plug the red white phono plugs into the Audio In beside the HDMI port.
    See here!

Correction, you *may* need to use the stereo plug instead of the RCA ones - the manual is not entirely clear on this and I don't have one of these brand TV's. Use one of the adapters Keyser Soze 5 mentioned in his post.

I have the smasung Syncmaster930i (19"widescreen) and i had to use the stereo adapter, the RCA leads gave no sound.
