My first picture at nighttime

    Hey guys,

Bought a tripod last week and finally had the chance to experiment with it tonight. It was very cold and windy along the coast, the last making it quite difficult to take long exposure shots without making the camera move around. Out of 20 images I shot this night, 19 failed... but this is the only one I found worth keeping. As I couldn't get auto-focus I focussed manually. It's taken with a Canon EOS 350D, 13.0 seconds exposure and f/4.5 aperture (ISO 100). Any coments are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dimy

I love the colours, kind of coppery :) I have yet to try and take some night photos, good job.

I think the 1st one has merit in the abstract shapes in the foreground, I like it. The rest I find too cluttered and I'm not sure what the main subject is in some of them.

If your camera has integral flash, try the first one again and give it a burst of flash just before the shutter closes (rear-curtain flash) - it could illuminate the shapes enough to give them an odd look against the warmer background.

Also, if you have a camera bag, try hanging it underneath the tripod to give it more stability during wind shots, it should bed the feet into the ground more.
