How do i remove programs that I no longer want?

I have tried the add / uninstall programs section in the control panel , but the computer cannot find the uninstall part of the program i no longer need to proceed with the uninstall. How else can i do it ?

After I run this process above how can i be sure that the program and all its parts are now fully gone from the Pc? If i was to reformat the HD , how would i do this ?

Ok, you have asked two very different questions there

Firstly, if you cannot remove programs using the Add/Remove programs wizard, you may have to manually do it. Go to C:\Program Files and delete the programs manually from there. If there is an uninstall file in there, then use that

Secondly, in the very last thing you say you talk about reformating you hd  This will wipe everything. This leads me to think that the 'programs' you want to be removed are viruses or spyware programs. Maybe you should try get some anti-spyware or anti-virus?? If not, to reformat your hd, put your windows cd in your cd drive, and then restart. This will make your computer boot from the cd, and you will lose everything. It will then ask you how you would like to format your new hd. Choose NTFS (far better).

    Hope this helps,
    Timbuk2

PS Have a long think about it and backup files that you need before reformattin your hd

Theres a few programs out there that can help you clear up the mess of uninstalling stuff. Add/Remove Pro is a good one that i use.
