Ok I know this might not be the ideal place to post but this problem is really slowing me down. In word im writing something now, something that needs to be edited quite a bit throughout. I've noticed this before but ignored it, cant do it now. I think its just an option thats selected, but say for instance you type soemthing then you notice something is wrong, you go back and change it, but when this option or whatever it is, is on it doesnt allow you to replace the letters or words. Its kinda hard to explain, but its like if you delete something it deletes the area you type in as well. It basically means if I type a sentence and theres a problem at the start i'll have to rewrite the whole thing again. Im fairly sure its a simple thing to fix just I dont know how. Anyone have this problem? Anyone know how to switch it off? Any help is appreciated!!

It sounds like Insert Mode is off. To change, press the Insert button. It will be near the top right of your keyboard.

In the bottom right of the Word screen there should be a status area that indicates whether Number Lock is on ("NUM" shown) and whether you are in insert or overwrite mode ("OVR" or "INS" shown). I don't have Word (only OpenOffice) to get exact abbreviations.
