This is a really strong piece of information, it's straight from the yard, I was talking to a guy I know very well who works there. Green Tango will NOT be placed in the 4:40pm at Cheltenham today. You can lay it at 2/1 for a place on Betfair, I laid it yesterday at much shorter than that. The bottom line is that he's no good and he will not be at the races at all today. This is a nailed on certainty, this guy has NEVER given me a bum steer. Sorry about Oodachee by the way, I had 200 each way and got 700 back so I suppose it could have been worse. They were happy enough with him, no hard luck stories, he just wasn't good enough on the day. In fairness though I thought he could have been a bit handier going over the last.

7th and the funny thing is that he ran much better than he was expected to.

europeboy - great to put up info about horses that are trying and fit ... but I would be careful about putting up info from a stable employee about a horse that will not be at the races and saying you laid it - presumably on Betfair.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23 Europeboy17

I wouldn't worry about it, who's going to rock the boat? Non-tryers are paying a lot of bills for a lot of people, Betfair should be illegal. In my opinion laying a loser is actually a better buzz than backing a winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭Crumbs

    Betfair should be illegal.
Because non-triers never existed before Betfair?

It's not that they never existed but because never before could you lay a horse to lose, that was a function reserved for our bookmaking friends.

You could back all the other horses to win. Same thing.

europeboy17 - I take it your name suggests your age ... fair enough ... wish I was that age again ... I was simply telling you to be careful for you and your contact's own sake ... but I have been around long enough to know it is part and parcel of this dirty game ...

I don't like non triers ... and I don't like the smug arrogance of your attitude about the buzz etc. -- it is nothing different than the Enron-type insider trading of Golden Circles etc. ...

... you were also pretty condescending to somebody else that put up their selections ... cop yourself on ...

I suspect that you have some racing contacts ... fine ... we always like to know when horses are trying ... sad that punters are treated this way - but that is the the way things are.

Ok. That's it, no need to take the piss, I won't be posting on this forum anymore. I was just trying to do you lads a favour. Best of luck and remember that it's mug punters like you lads that allow the winning punters to survive, keep up the good work.

No need to generalise, and there's no need to leave the forum because someone doesn't like you. I bet the majority of people on here are sick of me.

The bad thing for you is that I have a tip for Limerick on Saturday and if this thing runs it is an absolute certainty, the trainer thinks that it has about 3 stone in hand. I will not however be posting the name of that horse on this forum because you have pissed me off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,752 ✭✭✭wb

This is getting a bit childish to be honest europeboy. You have given some good information here before, and well done for that.
But just because somebody questions your wisdom and engages in some racing debate about non-triers, you get píssed off.

You could leave the forum if you like, but that is pointless in my opinion. If everyone on boards left after someone disagreed with something they said, there would be no-one left.

As for your 'certainty', I hope you post it, and I hope it wins, but it is a little patronising to say 'I have a tip, but you can't have it, cos someone pissed me off'
While everyone loves winning tips, I think you are flattering yourself to think that everyone is holding their breath waiting on you to post.

Just post the damn tip or don't is what I say. If your tips are good, then over time your stats. will speak for themselves, and there will be no need to get into these kind of arguments.

    Good luck with it anyway

    Phew!
    Thats my 2 cents worth.

Why is that bad for me? And how have I pissed you off? If you're going to say that I pissed you off, I might as well go ahead and actually do it. You're banned sir. I'm not going to tip toe around with you asking for your custom. You're acting like a little spoilt child. Good day.

I might see you in Limerick on Saturday, I'll look out for the guy with the tinfoil hat who thinks everyone is out to get him.

Did he really deserve a ban? He has posted up some very good tips on this forum and was really just reacting (badly) to TOm Kelly who kinda provoked him anyway..

Ban was a little harsh even though his reply was OTT. Tom Kellys remarks were equally uncalled for. Just my 2c

I feel he did. He was provoked by TOm and by intheknow, true. But slagging off everyone on this forum, and saying he has a tip and won't post it is just taking the piss. Yes, he posted some good tips, for which I am grateful. But that doesn't entitle him to any special treatment, and I'm not going to beg someone to stay here. He's being very childish, and stated he was leaving anyway. I did not want him to leave and offered him a way out of it, a chance to say right lads I'll cut this out - we're all adults here, but he went and dug himself into an even deeper hole.

If you really think it's unwarranted I can remove it. He's already said he is leaving so it probably won't make much of a difference.

You're dead right sjones, for a comment like the above he deserved to go, we can live without muppets like him. In all the years I've followed racing I've come across countless peoples like him who think they are "in the know" because they get the odd whisper. Believe me the people who are really in the know don't post about it on message boards.

    I agree.

Is forums not about free speech? I thought he was an extremely useful addition. You don't have to agee with what he says but what the hell was he banned for?

I got a 1 week ban before for questioning Healio's tips. You are quaestioning his advice and he gets the ban. It seems like 1 law for some and another law for others on this forum. Some people would like to hear what he has to say. Im sure Im not the only one on here to have this point of view. Its not a bit wonder there arn't many posters on this forum if they are going to be bullied by a clanish exclusive boys club.

I say the ban should be lifted and Europeboy should be allowed to prove himself.

I got a 1 week ban for saying the exact same thing about Healio.

That ain't what you got a one week ban for.

    Firstly, welcome back finnpark.

Free speech has limitations. If it didn't, we would not need a charter, and we would not need moderators either. From my comments in this thread I think it's very obvious why he was banned. He may have been a useful addition as I already stated, but that does not entitle him to any special treatment.

Well, this is the sole thing I'm trying to address here. He is not getting special treatment, and by not banning him, that's exactly what I would be doing.

As for the way this place is run.. This is actually one of the most open horse racing forums I have ever been involved in. Very little moderation is required because the majority of people here are sane adults and act accordingly.

As for the number of people on here? I'm actually very happy with the numbers finnpark. If you don't like it here, you know where the door is.

Yes it was, the first ban that is. Ive been banned twice.

    Check this thread:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054855128

I was banned for the following statement:
It would be unlikely to say the least that the son of an owner would post a 'tip' on a horse racing forum. Most people who do this are also laying it off on Betfair as they know it is not going to win. Im not backing it.

It is 7/4 favourite. Fair play to you if this horse wins, your a decent bloke, but if this horse is just out for the run you can expect quite a bit of flack.

Bset of Luck to anyone who has backed it.

Well done for banning Europeboy............................................NOT. Talk about killing the goose, thats what you did, you killed the goose. Like I said before I know the guy and yeah hes a bit highly strung but he is a red hot tipster too, from what I gather praktically all of his family are hooked up with horses some way or another. I think that those who offended him should apologise to him and we should try to get him back. Have you forgotten about the 9/1 winner he posted up last week? Swallow your pride for Gods sake.

    Folks,

by all means question any of the moderators decisions. You can crank up a thread on feedback, or you can PM one of the admins, which are evident from the faq pages.

FWIW sjones made the correct decision in this regard. The guy was on thin ice with me from the moment he posted his laying tip. The manner in which his post was worded, and not least the content of it, could have landed us (the mods) and ultimately boards.ie in some hot water.

We have a diverse section of posters on this board from all corners of the industry. I know that we have trainers, stable hands, jockeys, reporters and a few in the betting industry (amongst others) who regularly post here. Comments like those posted earlier on this thread, while not illegal, run against the spirit of what horse racing should be (that's my opinion).

We all now the grey area that is laying, and we have all heard stories and seen evidence of pilots not giving their rides a fair crack of the whip (this pun is intended).

Finnpark, it's a bad idea to start arguing about a ban, when you have just come back off 1. Both of your bans were justified, you know it. It is not a case of 1 rule for 1 and 1 for the others. Again if you think it is, PM me (or any of the Mods here0 of take it to feedback/the gods.

With the above in mind this thread has run it's course (another intended pun).

Ok I'll wrap this up here....

Finnpark thanks for reminding me about that ban.

    Ban 1= Week ban
    Ban 2= 2 weeks ban
    Ban 3= Permanent

So there ya go, you're banned for another week.

Ian147100, Repli, Finnpark and all the others who think Europeboy17's ban was harsh....

Firstly he could have gotton himself and this forum in a lot of trouble for posting up information about a horse that was going to lose. That was just amateur hour to be honest.

Next, he called the other users of this forum, users of a lot more standing than him, mug punters. We don't have to take from a noobie...no matter how well connected he thinks he is.

He posted 2 tips. One winner and one loser. We posted a 16-1 winner here yesterday, this is nothing new nor special. This forum is bigger than any one poster, especially someone as arrogant as him.

Boards is not a democracy etc etc. Boards doesn't endorse free speech etc etc. Boards will however protect its arse from yards who will mail in expecting to know why one of our users is on here telling everyone that a horse will lose.

    The ban stands.
