Why would you buy an MP3 player that arguably looks worse, has a clumsy GUI and is more expensive for less storage?

All that being said, since you're stuck with it, try this:
    http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/index.html

I think it's free, at least I didn't see a buy button, and beta 1.1.1 adds support for the latest Creative players.

Because they have excellent sound ;) Most iPods sound terrible.

The newest iPod's all have excellent sound, including the iPod shuffle (I was honestly surprised when I plugged a shuffle into my €500 stereo, and it sounded fantastic).

But you do have a point, some iPod's I have heard haven't had the best sound. For example, the (now discontinued) iPod mini was said to not have the hottest sound. At least that's what I heard, I never owned one.

And for the record, I'm somebody who spends €300+ on the latest Sennheiser headphones, and I can (at least on expensive headphones) hear the difference between certain 128kbps files and the original CD.

I think its pretty cynical that its taken them 5 generations to get one (5G and Nano) that sounds decent through the headphone out. (line out was always decent). SQ is only now on par with the competitors. Not that SQ is important to the majority of people its mainly about the image and following the fashion. But even now the shuffle is still has the best SQ. The creative players aren't perfect, and have their own flaws like all players. But SQ has never been a problem on any of them. That is enough reason to buy one in my book. I have a Shuffle and Zen Micro myself. If you are that into music I'm surprised you use 128kps. I don't find that enjoyable myself.

Not a fan of either the iPod or Creative UI personally. The Shuffle buttons are the best interface. Its great that you can now get them on the Radio Remote. Might consider an iPod now.

Heh, >_> I like my Creative Zen.. and back when I bought it 230 for 20gigs was a lot better then the iPod available.

    >_> Its also more study then an ipod. ¬_¬ Ipods just scare me, with the amount of times they seem to just randomly break down.. o_o my zen hasnt broken down yet. and its fallen down 10steps onto a tiled floor.. it got a dent from that though.. -_-

And no, I love mac. ¬_¬ I'd love an ipod, but, heck, if I was going to get one I'd get a 60gig video and they just cost too much for me atm.

Oh.. and apparently the if you plug your ipod into a hifi via a dock the sound quality is a lot better then just via the line out.

And no, dont encode on 128kb.. 192 is the best, imo.

Seems the thread went way off-topic well quick ... not to worry, the information is no longer needed - thanks anyway ;)

I need this info too! I want to buy a new mp3 player but Im afraid it wont work on my mac.

So, is the general consensus that creatives do work on macs? What about Sony Walkmans?

I need something really sturdy cause I break everything!

Buy an Flash based iPod and get an extended warranty, preferrably one that included accidental damage.

Lossless is the best, if your ears, speakers, headphones are up to it.
