Mockingbird

Over in the states at the moment. And Guitar centre are having a sale as usual. went in this evening and they had a BEAUTIFUL BC Rich Mockingbird NJ. Neck through, lovely colour and design. one of my favourite looking guitars of all time. Great price on it so i thought id just buy it, but common sense kicked in and i said id try it out. Glad i did, the neck was demented. It felt nice but the frets were awful, the metal bars stuck out so much they would actually cut you. You couldnt slide around on it at all, you were constantly bumping off the frets. I tried out all the other mockingbirds they had and they were all the same. It saddens me that they arent built well :( i was talking to the sales guy and he said that while they are lovely guitars, the the wood they they are built out of in Korea doesnt travel well and if BC rich dont pack them right ( Which they never do) the neck shrinks in transit and causes the frets to stick out a bit.
Again..This saddens me. There was nothing else that took my fancy. I think the Schecter ruined me for life. The guy talked to me about PRS and I tried one out, was 1800 Dollars though. Slightly spicey for me. Played nice though nothing i could see or hear about it was worth the price.

It probably wouldn't cost that much to have the frets dressed ?

just bought a planet waves cable and some strings man nothing mad. The sales are just too good here to decide on any one thing. so you either get loads of stuff or nothing at all

Hmm, that sounds pretty god damn bad. I've got two standard BC Rich guitars here, a Mockingbird and a Virgin, and they're both excellent guitars. Infact, the neck on the Mockingbird is easily one of the nicest of any guitar I've ever played.

Glad to hear you didn't end up buying something you'd regret. Both of my BC Riches, I played there and then, so I knew I was getting something I'd be happy with.

i dont reckon they are novelty guitars past a certain level. Yeah they make some ****e but all guitar companys do. The neck felt really nice it was a lovely width and depth. But I actually have cuts on my fingers from the frets they were out so much. It sickens me cause its an absolutly beautiful looking guitar its different but classy looking. It sounded really nice too but it would have spaggetti made out of of your hands after a while. Getting it finished would be too much of a pain in the ass. The strap lock was on the inside too which annoys the hell out of me.

For mockingbirds, it has to be the Burny MG for me:

If only I had a few grand...

edit: pics stopped working so its url's instead
edit2: they're still f*cked so umm... just believe me.
edit3: tripod removed the pictures 5 mins after I linked to them. What an INSANE coincidence.

To be honest ive had terrible and great experiances with b.c. rich, one guy bought one just before i was going to and his had the exact same problems, i said there was no way i was gonna have a guitar that cuts into my hands so i bought a ltd viper 400 which imo is a great guitar(especially for the cash).

After playing that guys warlock i was off b.c. riches for aggges until recently when 2 guys i know got the cheaper ones, you know the arch top bick in musicstore and the kerry king pack and i must say that theese are both pretty damm good guitars and dirt cheap too.

weird though the way that the cheaper ones were 10 times better than the more expensive ones.
