Can the Zen Vision:M be used as a hard drive?

I'm looking for a replacement for my faulty iriver H320 which I've just returned. I hear the new irivers aren't the best and I'm looking for something that can be used without downloading software to the computer so that I can download lecture notes etc. from college computers. The sales assistant told me he wasn't sure if the creative 30gb can do this. Anyone know for sure?

Never actually tried it but the manual says you can do it if you format a section of the hardrive for data. In other words you could set a gig or 2 aside to use as a portable hard drive.

Went into dixons yesterday and they told me it can be used as a USB Mass Storage Device like the iriver H320 without installing any software, still not sure if this is true though.

The 20 and 40 gig creative touch can be use as a HDD in any PC (once upgrated to the latest firmware)

Newer players have MTP filesystems which allow data storage, however its really only for light use. What you are likely referring to is the Removable Disk mode on all the recent Creative players (that I know of). Basically its in the Extras menu area, it allows a percentage of the HDD to be used as Mass Storage (appears as Drive Letter) when you plug it into the PC in this mode.

Can be used for Music or Video transfer till you exit that menu item and reconnect it of course.
