Paddy's Day makes far more sense as it's now a celebration of the Irish people (or Paddy's as we were known throughout the world for years) instead of an antiquated religious feast day for some over-hyped delusional.

Yes, but not a term used in a complimentary fashion very often either. I mean, if a Cockney walked into your local and shouted ''allo Paddies' would he be welcomed or beaten?

'Paddies', like the word 'Micks', was often used in close connection with words like 'thick' or 'drunk'.

I agree that it was/can be used as a derogatory term towards us, but I like to think that we've recalimed the description as our own. "You want to insult us by calling us that? OK then, we'll call ourselves that."
