I'm thinking of getting a remap on my Focus 1.6 Zetec.

Does anyone know where it could be done in Ireland?

    Is it worth it?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd say don't bother. Your insurance will be affected most likely.

    Just my view.

Think it works out at about 10% etc power if thats what you're after, can be remapped to help fuel efficiency too, so is usually worth it for most car owners.

The remapping software uses the same checksums as the factory software, so isn't detectable. So its up to yourself whether you tell your insurance company or not, but its not something they'll pick up on.

It seems the best engines to respond to remapping are turbo diesels a la the VW TDi.

I dont think there is much you can do with a 1.6 petrol. Try a K&N panel filter maybe? You should get the price of that back on he fact it does not need to be replaced.

Choosing not declaring any mod. (performance or other) has to be wrong n'est pas?

I know a couple of cars Martin Duffy has done, and their owners have all been happy. You get about 10% power increase, but you also get improved fuel economy.

Tightrope Technologies in Galway use a piggyback system to get about the same gains.

I'd be surprised if you get any worthwhile gains on a bog standard 1.6 to be honest. Turbos, where boost pressure can be increased or variable valve timing, where timing of the high lift cams can be altered.

There's a lot of ignorance out there when it comes to remapping in Ireland.

My insurance didn't change AT ALL when I declared a remap. I'm 24 with 4 points and male.. so all the boxes were ticked for the insurance brigade to screw me.. but they didn't!!

There's not much point in you paying to remap a 1.6. Generally speaking, N/A engines don't see any noticeable increases in power. Things like Ford Duratec engines etc are the exception to the rule..

You'd probably see a 2bhp increase in power - a turbo engine will see roughly 35bhp and a nice wedge of torque to boot.

It's a fantastic way to increase you cars potential if your car is suitable.

They only way i would have allow mapping take place is have it run on a rolling road before and after!

During tuning I would insist on having the car tuned on the rolling road to find all flat spots... other than that your wasting your time... Totally wasting your time!

was thinking of getting my car remapped but dont know if its worth the cost or not. My cars currently 140BHP and would go to about 150BHP

Would you really be able to "feel" that extra bit?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,974 ✭✭✭mick.fr

The gain on standard petrol engines would be minimum, 8 HP or so.
It is worth on diesels or petrol with Turbo though you can gain 20-40HP (and more) +torque, depends...

    me too

According www.autoremap.com my cars bhp would go from 180 to 210,torque from 235 to 310.

Not bad for spending 350 euro?
