    You may remember me from such posts as "Does the dentist Make you cry?" http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054901020

    Well I've just come off the phone to an even more upsetting senario;

    The filling I got last week was €85.00 and I was told to fill out a form, that I might be entitled to €40 or so of it back because of PRSI.

    Well my next apointment is in April and I'm booked in for 4 fillings (better for me to get them done and have it over with) and I was trying to work out a budget for myself. The very kind and helpful receptioist told me to contact some 1890 number to see if I'm entitled to any benifits.

    After beeing left on hold for about ten minutes, the lady informed me that to be entitled to these benifits I have to have worked for 39 weeks year ending 2004...get this, I worked 38, I left for Oz in September 04 and had I stayed one more poxy week then my dental costs next month would amount to about €250.00 but because of some stupid small print and one bleedin week that I didn't work I have to fork out almost half a grand. It turns out I'm not entitled to any benifits until January 2007, I'll be on my way to New Zealand by then! I'm headin off travelling again in Sept.

    So I'm throwing an unethical and unmoral idea around in my head, and I'm not looking for advice, I know its ilegal, but what would you do in my situation?

    Supposing I was to get PRSI details off a friend who did work 39 weeks in 2004, and supposing I made an appointment with a dentist that doesn't know me or my friend and made the apointment in my friends name. Would it be really bad? The dentist wouldn't get in trouble because they wouldn't know and they'd still get paid cause I'd be paying half and my friends PRSI would be covering the other half. Or am I being really dodgy in a dell boy sorta way? I just feel really ripped off by the PRSI thing, I've worked since I was 18, never signed on, never claimed social benifit for sick days, money comes out of my wages each week and I get nothing in return because I missed one weeks work. It's just very unfair and I wish there was something I could do.

    Hi. I see you are giving out that nobody is answering you thread. Well if you are suggesting identity fraud to get cheap dental work the answer is absoulty NO. Your friend would have the fact that fillings were done on teeth recorded and he would not be able to claim if he needed work done himself on these teeth.

    Dental treatment is something we all have to pay for at one time or another. Save you and budget for it as a reoccuring expence ever year like car tax.

    Dont post obviosly illegal suggestions here or you will be banned:mad:

    I know, Sorry. Its just I feel so ripped off by a system that just dosn't care. I can appreciate that your supposed to budget for such expenses, my grief is the fact that because I only worked 38 weeks in the year 2004 I'm not entitled to any PRSI benifit because you have to have worked 39 weeks, never mind the fact that I worked 50 weeks in the year 2003, or the fact that I have never claimed benifits from PRSI for any fillings I've had done in the past, I just thought it was so stingy that you can't carry over from year to year or you can't claim PRSI back at the end of the year if you don't get any work done.

    I'm sorry, I didn't mean to annoy you or make you mad, but I'm very annoyed myself and I just wanted, I dunno, I suppose a "There, there, it'll be alright, it happens us all" sort of response.

    Won't happen again.

    look i hear you. the prsi system is both injust and unadequite however ireland is like most of the world its turning to a privatly funded health system. Quality health care wheather medical or dental is very difficult to fund in the public sector. You teeth are really your concern, taxation is not a good way to fund this. The PRSI dental service is antiquated and outdated. Often when young people get their first jobs which dont pay so well they have to pay for their dental work for the first time ( mum and dad dont pay anymore) the cost comes as a shock and when you are paying PRSI you feel like they should pay. I suggest that the PRSI dental tax is abolished and people pay for their own dental insurance or save for their checkups.

    Just my two cents. Dont ressort to breaking the law.

    Thanks fitzgemme, you came across a bit strong the first time. I've no intention of breaking the law, I just felt hard done by. Here I am, working legit, paying my taxes etc. etc. and I get nothing in return. And yet there are so many skanks scabbing off the system, getting so much in return and in all honesty I wouldn't really make an appointment in someone elses name, even if I had a willing accomplice, I just wouldn't have the guts, but that thread was a vent for me and a way to find out if I'm alone in felling so ripped off. This country is such a rip off.
