    Hey,

I'm trying to fix a pc at the minute, for some reason the hard drive is not recognised in the pc but when I put it into my pc it seems to work fine.
I've tried my hd in the pc i'm trying to fix and that seems to work too so now I don't really know what to do.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers
    Fusion

A bit more information is required?
What other devices are connected to the pc your trying to fix?
What way do you have the hdd setup? (slave, master, cable select)
    Type of hdd?

Had a similar problem with my wrigg when I was building her.

Basically the Motherboard couldn't recognise anything above 160GB.

In the end I had a look around their site and it was a known problem. A bios upgrde solved it.

Have a browse around the manufacturers site for this issue.

If this doesn't help, is it SATA or IDE?

aye make sure its set as the master disk, the little diagram..probably on the hard drive itself will tell you where to set the jumpers. if the other suggestions fail you might have to enter the settings in manually into the BIOS, though i have never had to do so.

The only devices connected are cdrw and floppy. I have tried all the jumper settings, it's a Maxtor 30Gb IDE hard drive and I don't think the motherboard recognises it for some reason.

Remove the IDE cable from the cd rom, try the HDD on both the IDE connectors, could be a faulty cable.

Have you tried it with the master jumper, if that doesn't work try it with Cable Select.

Have you tried the hdd on both ide1 and ide2 without the cdrom drive connected.
What size/make/jumper settings is your hdd that you tried in the pc your trying to fix?

    Yes I have.

30Gb/Maxtor/I have had the jumper settings at cable select, master & slave to a hd that works, when the hd is a slave the computer recognises it..just not as a master. When I have it in as a single drive it is not recognised.

    Sorry I'm stumped!
If it works as a slave then use it that way otherwise:confused:
