Files Gone But they Still Play

ok last night while moving my mp3's i selected all artists form A-E to transfer from the F drive to E (can't recall the makes of HD's now will check again when i get home). everything seemed ok, then went to the folder where they were meant to go (E:\mp3) but only artists beginning with A were there and the original folders (A-E stored on my F drive) were delated from the orignal folders (F:\Music).

no programs find the missing folders when i add the mp3 folder to a playlist i just get the A's but when i type in the address (eg E:\mp3\Beastie Boys) the folder opens up. I use the up folder option and i end back at E:\mp3 and the file is gone.

when i use the file explorer i can get the folder i'm lookin at on the tree but no other hidden ones and when i copy it again to the folder i get it renamed to COPY OF BEASTIE BOYS.

show hidden files and folders option is on.

    any ideas?

Run a chkdisk and set it to repair any errors.

done that found some probs but told me fixed (well not in them exact words) and now when i try and read the files or import them into a media player it slows the whole system down and eventually crashes, there is a loud "tick"noise few seconds after the slowdown/crash would i be right in sayin the HD is the problem?
