is it important to safely remove usb pen drives

    or can they be just yanked out of the ports when all related fiels are closed

    No, just because you've closed the file doesn't mean Windows has. Yanking it out can cause data loss or corruption.

    u can set it up so you can do this..lot handier and I've never had a prob..most of them now had led's that flash when they're running so you know exactly when windows is finished with it..

    this disables the write caching on the usb stick so you don't get corruption when you yank it out..you take a slight performance hit but it's not noticeable

    I never noticed this before. Turns out it's even enabled already on my pen drive. And there was me clicking the safe removal icon like a sucker.

    from properties go to hardware tab, double click on your flash drive, and go to policies tab, there it is.

    I always yank it out, usually running out of a lab in college and just dont have the time to safely remove it. Never had any problems, except the time i yanked up instead of out, and it snapped in half. I use these USB sticks though: Intelligent Stick, which is why it happened.
