ok well i have a few opinion questions for everyone, please throw in any old figure you consider for these 2... problems :D

    1.....
i am looking for a really cheap laptop, something that is beyond anyone wanting anytime soon, just so that i can load linux on it and take notes on it in college. i have so far set a budget of 150 euro and i want to know your opinion on if this is sellin myself short or not.

    2.....
and for the next trick;) i am looking to sell an expensive piece of software soon and i would like to know what price you think i could get for it. THIS IN NOT A SELLING POST SO PM ME IF YOUR INTERESTED! its 3D Studio Viz release 3, complete with instruction manual and hardware dongle (the security thing, don't quite know what its called).

    any thoughts?

    1) You will probably get a PI for that money. Battery life in that price bracket will be poor, unless you are really lucky. I would say PI with decent battery, PII with a poor one. Reading your other post, not a hope in hell of 500Mhz unless it needs work. 500mhz is good enough to play quake II with software accel, nevermine solitare!

    2) Sell it on ebay, you will probably get the best price for it there.

well ya see thats the thing, the work i'm thinking of putting into it is formatting the hard drive and loading a low spec linux onto it... i'm testing a few distros on a 266 laptop (that is about to fall appart) and i'll see what can run without much trouble.

i'm doin computer science in TCD, i don't think i'll have too much trouble networking with this one cos i have all these great "i dream in linux" people around me that i'm sure have the answers ten times over :D

by work I dont mean installing linux, I mean hardware issues.

Anyway, nothing ventured, nothing gained! Its worth a shot!

hmm.. i had never thought about that, i was never really a hardware fanatic and i wouldn't call myself good enough to even think about repairing a busted laptop! from what i believe, laptops are quite difficult to resolve hardware issues on... no?
