Go to aaireland.com and use a route planner if your driving.essentially go to red cow roundabout, head out the naas road and onto motorway and straight all the way to limerick and then follow the sign for tralee or killarney. Its the n7

If you could hire a car or mpped you would see an awful lot more. You want to be able to stop wherever you like. The whole Dingle peninsula is gorgeous and you can go to Dun Chaoin and visit the Blasket Islands etc. I don't know Killarney that well but it is meant to be lovely. I'd still go with Dingle thjough :) You could also get the bus all the way from Dublin but that won't be so comfortable.

    Live in South Kerry myself.

They are not unalike in that they are both geared up for tourists, but Dingle has a bit more of the village effect whereas Killarney, being about 10 times bigger, has a much bigger range of accomodation, restaurants, pubs, clubs, a cinema, swimming pools etc. etc. Killarney has the INEC too so most weekends it will have some big act playing there - think Morrissey is playing sometime soon. Both have wonderful scenery within a few miles, Killarney has the Lakes, the Reeks and the Ring of Kerry, whereas Dingle has Sley Head and the Blasket Islands nearby. Personally I'd go for Killarney, one can only go to the Hillgrove (disco in Dingle) and listen to Bryan Adams so many times, but both are great destinations.

Tralee, on the other hand, is not really a place to stop and stay. While I like the town because I know it well and have a lot of friends there, even they would concede that it's not the most beautiful town ever.
