    Hi Guys

As i said in another thread ive a few bits for sale on ebay at the minute, anyways one of the auctions ended and the winner sent me payment.I had an email from paypal to say my account does not accept credit card payments from the user and that i need to upgrade my account to business or premier.

Now im wondering is A:there something slightly dodgy with that B:Is it paypal trying to just get more cash out of me?

Is it a case that the guys not registered with paypal or what?should i be anyway sceptical of it or just upgrade the account?

    Cheers

    The answer is b)

The buyer is paying you with his credit card via paypal. In order to accept credit card funded payments, you have to upgrade your account. Once you do this paypal will deduct fees from each payment you recieve irrespective of how the payment was funded.

it never is a problem for him, the seller must have it.

I sold stuff in US$ & € and had a euro and $ balance in paypal. One the upside you can now use this balance to pay for stuff in $ and avoid the poor exchange rate they offer.

If the buyer had sold stuff and was in credit then if he paid you it may be free (not sure about that one)

If you upgrade, you will be charged the fees for every payment you accept via paypal. The buyer has not had a problem before because paypal make it seamless for buyers to pay and it is the sellers who have the problems.

If you advertised that you accept paypal, you cannot refuse his payment. If the buyer had a balance on his account and he paid you with that, you would not have to upgrade (or pay fees). The buyer does not have a balance hence the use of the credit card.

I decided to upgrade unfortunatly!Got another payment today and it just seems the handiest thing to do.

Im even more baffled now,how people can make a living let alone any profits on ebay with all the charges incured

welcome to the ebay way... fees for listing, fees for selling & fees for taking paypal. ebay have successfully integrated paypal into the site that almost everyone pays with it. I have sold 55 CDs in the last week and 54 were paid with paypal!.

don't forget to charge appropriate P&P to allow you to comply with the paypal rules of fully trackable postal service otherwise you will leave yourself open to buyer fraud.
