    Hey u guys

I´ve a doubt: Is it necessary to show any ID when entering any pub/disco/bar etc at night?

And do they usually have any entrance fee?

    Thanks

Um... of course, you have to be able to prove you're over 18.... o_Ó

As for entrance fee, pubs generally don't unless there's some manner of gig on.

I've been going to the G since I was 16, and on more than one occasion without ID. Once they recognise you, they don't ask any more.

    Oh thanks.

Cause here in Sao Paulo not every bar/disco asks for an ID (and only above 18 can enter too).

I asked this because i didnt want to take my passport with me to these places. I hope the copy is enoguh!

It's a bad idea to carry your passport on you, In fact as far as i remember, It's illegal for people to use it as a form of ID to get into clubs and pubs. How true that is now, I don't know.

    Say what!

could be damien, but I remember about 3 years ago in an effort to reduce the number of irish passports being stolen, the goverment started making niose about only having your passport on your person if you're about to travel. Basically that gardi could fine you if you went to report a stolen/lost passport, and said you lost it in a club. I used to use my passport as ID, and clubs stops taking it around this time, said they would only take Garda ID.

That said I can't find a single bit of documentation to back this up, So it must be bull. Whats the story with having to carry your drivers license at all times whiel driving, is that Bull too?

As far as I know, if you're asked for your driver's licence while driving and you don't have it with you, you're given a week to bring it into the station.

That passport thing sounds rediculous, it's the only official ID you have in this country since we don't have a national ID card. The National Age Card isn't really recognised anywhere other than pubs&clubs, in fact your driver's licence is more widely accepted than it.

Maybe it's time to start a thread in "Legal Discussions" about this?

I'm satisfied that it's bull, all the infor on osais points to club/pub having to accept Passports

No its an offence not too carry your drivers license when operating an MPV. the Gardai may allow you too produce (and many will) if you can provide some form of ID.

As for the passport, many companies such as banks demand and are legally bound to demand government issued ID and as such Ireland must use passports until a national ID comes in.

The bar/pub thing about Garda ID was merely an idea to reduce/stop the free trade of lost and stolen passports but there is nothing in law.

Apologies, too answer the original question, you must be able to prove your age between 18 and 21 and once over 21 you no longer are required to produce ID. Does this make sense? No, not for a second but that is a section in the Intox Liquor Act. How you are supposed to prove your not between 18 and 21 wasn't considered for some strange reason.

Wish that was the case because some places wont accept a garda card cause it they say it can be faked...whats the point in having one if everywhere wont accept it. I dont wanna carry my passport around with me in case i lose it or worse gets stolen...Grrrrrrr >_<

I've only ever used it; I don't have the Garda thing.

And I ALWAYS get ID-ed, due to my amazing youthful-ness, or something.

How did this end up in legal discussion?

It would seem that only Passports, Drivers License and Garda age cards are valid forms of ID here. That said, I haven't read anything saying people have to accept them as valid.

*I've no knowledge of the law*

Can it be slander if they (bouncers) accuse you (wrongly) of having a forged card and other people overhear the conversation??? :D

    €€€€€€€€!

Bouncers don't actually SAY that much, though, do they? They just imply it. That said, feel free to try; it's always nice to have a few amusing lawsuits going on.

Security with ISIC is negligible and is unlikely to be accepted.

In my experience, most venues accept driving licenses no problem.

    Lose I presume? :p

That only works so often before questions get asked and what if it actually turned up or as I already asked, you get stopped by Gardai?

Not bull, you should have it at all times with you while driving. If not the demand will be made by a garda asking you to produce the D/L at a station of your own choice within ten days not a week.

What you mean? it's not damaged or anything, it was just a little tip-ex & ink job, so it came straight off! :D I'm of-age now, so it's back to normal. Handy :p

No just report the loss of the D/L to your local Garda Station and then apply for a duplicate. They form is at the station. Even if you get stopped and the demand is made for the 10 days at a station of your choice you will have plenty time and no excuse not to have the duplicate in 10 days/.

Unless you apply to Wicklow CC where typical licence issues take 2 months!

Well any sort of licence issue actually takes 2 months. They are the slowest feckers in Ireland.

What a tool. You used tipp-ex and hand writing to cover a laminated, green or pink form that had the information printed in type on it?

Wow either your full of **** or your full of ****.

By the way, talking about how you tamper with official documents on the internet is probably not the best of ideas.
